Details:
Luther Badman Keith is a Detroit, Michigan based bluesman who got started late in the game but has come on with a vengeance. Keith, who did not pick up a guitar until he was in his thirties and did not start playing professionally until he was in his mid-40s, has won legions of fans with a high-energy, no-holds barred performing style and some of the most creative songwriting and arrangements in the blues today.
Think Robert Cray with a rocking edge. Keith counts as his influences the late Luther Allison, the artist who inspired him to play the blues, Albert King, Carlos Santana, the Doors, Son Seals and Eric Clapton. However, Keith''s blues, while firmly anchored in tradition, break the mold by bringing a fresh approach to the music he loves. He doesn''t write copy cat songs and he is not a copy cat performer.
"No one is going to out B.B., B.B. King or out Stevie, Stevie Ray Vaughan, no matter what they might think," Keith says. "I''m trying to bring my own sound to the music and give people a fresh perspective like the others who came before me.
"I''m not into the guitar hero thing that seems to be popular with a lot of folks who like electric blues. To me it''s much more meaningful and rewarding to write a really great song that gets people humming it, than it is to play a flashy guitar solo.
"The song really is the thing for me, though I love hitting some sweet licks on the guitar as much as anybody."
On his latest CD, Thunder in My Blues, you''ll hear Keith sing the blues about having a "Six Figure Salary," pay homage to "The Last Bluesman" and speculate about what the government is really up to in the song, "Rocks on Mars."
You''ll hear some rock and roll, some funk, Latin grooves and all kinds of other influences rumbling through Keith''s tunes.
"All of it is about making sounds that people enjoy," Keith says. "It''s like what someone else once said, there are just two types of music, good and bad."
