MP3 Julia Macklin - FOLK: Folk Pop

Floating, melodic, bittersweet folk pop from New York City.

5 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Folk Pop, POP: Delicate

Details:
"Julia Macklin is a poet and a lyricist, penning unstructured verses about the forest, the flowers and falling in and out of love. Complex time signatures and unusual instrumentation marked by mellotron, harmonium and lap steel provide the backbone for Macklin''s gentle, melancholic vocals. Former October Project vocalist Marina Belica provides lovely harmonies, especially on the Celtic-flavored "So Much Sky" and the languid "Say Goodbye." The disc concludes with a haunting, ethereal version of "Eleanor Rigby." Ideal staying-in-bed-on-a-rainy-Sunday music."
-Performing Songwriter

"Julia Macklin has a stunningly sublime ethereal voice. Her voice has a serene, dreamy, quality that makes you feel as if you are floating with the music. Beautiful guitar, beautiful lyrics, and a beautiful voice are Julia Macklin''s strengths."

WHAT PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY ABOUT JULIA

"Folk rock from the outskirts of New York. There Julia Macklin seems to make some incredible music. With her lofty voice tenderly caressing your ears with melodies and songs of love, Julia, the poet songstress, is another great find for Hotstuff... "
-- Rick Seigel, https://www.tradebit.com

"Macklin builds her songs around feelings, creating moods that make you feel like you''re floating. Yet, beyond these delicate songs lie lyrics that are honest and revealing and sometimes dark."
-- Chris Kornmann, CMJ New Music Report

Live In Studio Interview: Julia Macklin, WCUW, 91.3, Worcester, MA
"...Viewing songs as melodic poetry, Julia frames reflective images with flowing lyrics that draw the listener into the heart of her world. Dreamy harmonies layered over ephemeral instrumentation result in an alluring tapestry of sound. Julia and Marina''s harmonies are striking and dramatic. This Series has been running for over three years now and listener response to this morning''s show has been one of the strongest. On a New England morning that glowed at sunrise, Julia, Marina, and Tom gave us a thrilling start to our day here in MetroWorcester."

"A wag once said that it is forbidden to listen to Leonard Cohen on a sunny day, and Macklin may evoke similar statements, but dare yourself to try. She''s worth the temporary melancholy."
--Robert MacMillan - the Old Town Crier.

"Macklin''s delicate music draws from many springs: the British folk-rock of Steeleye Span, the progressive panoramas of Kate Bush and Jane Siberry, the tender, sparkling pop of The Sundays and Elizabeth Fraser''s wordless vocalizations. Her five-song debut establishes a dreamy, floating atmosphere and mostly keeps to it, although ''Long Day'' offers a refreshing break; my
pick single, it should appeal to Sheryl Crow fans."
