Details:
"Simpson is not your average folkie. Slapping her 12-string guitar for additional percussion, she changes the tempos often. Expressive and unique, her voice slinks around the chords of her guitar with controlled looseness. A solo debut (CD), OK Cafe is a clever hybrid of styles that the listener will find intriguing. Whether she moves into a ballad, slips into a funk-inflected expanse or some ethereal territory, her muse is constantly complex and rewarding."
-Dirty Linen Music Magazine (OK Cafe review)

"The effervescent Simpson opened the evening with ''Inside Out,'' rendered in a rockin'' edge and clear sailing, jazz-tinged voice. Simpson is not cut from the same cloth as most singer/songwriters. She keeps a blitzin'' percussive strum running at all times on a 12-string while giving the impression that her soul is liberated as she performs. She also chilled spines with a sadder song (''Angel of Thunder'') about a dear relative who derailed mentally towards the end of her earthly existence."
-Dirty Linen Aug/Sept 2003 (live performance review)

"Say anything you want about yourself and tell ''em I said it."
-Vance Gilbert

"Maggie kept me guessing, delighted me, surprised me, taught me, inspired me, and entertained me profoundly... I thought of a ''Big Bad Blues Bully'' (a hot ticket on the blues circuit) and realized how this diminutive dryad (Simpson) had just kicked his ass and stole his wallet.
-Carl''s Harp Talk Blues E-zine

"Simpson is a soulful, full-of-feeling songwriter."
-Denver Post

"Maggie walked me through a song I thought I knew. Now the song has so much more room in it; room for wonder and sun to come through. I want to bring every song to her."
-David Wilcox

"...a magnificent clarion voice and a twelve string guitar that never backs down...songs that push human issues and complicated emotions into the realm of instructive parable...and generous helpings of joy."
-Pinedale Roundup

"The music pours out like there is no tomorrow. The songs are well crafted and musical, but it''s the voice that grabs you and wraps them into your heart forever. Maggie sings like she is in a trance. Her smile and charm is unforgettable and her voice will send chills."
- Scott Arbough, Music director - KBCO, FM

-"An all time favorite...A drop dead voice with percussive guitar and lyrics that will chill your spine." - Tom Plant, Acoustic Coffee

BIO:
Maggie Simpson resides in the Rocky Mountain West, where she is renowned for her powerful and dynamic performance style, her stunning voice, her rhythmic guitar work, and her stories. She grew up in a family of trained actors, musicians, directors and public speakers. She left home at sixteen years old to begin six and a half years of professional training in the performing arts (four and a half of those in Boston University''s Professional Theater Training Program). She followed her training with fifteen years of performance experience in acting, performance art, self-scripting and acoustic music. These elements converge with grace and power in her performance, creating a show that is simple and complex, dramatic and subtle, and singularly Maggie.

Simpson''s music covers a broad range from ethereal, lyrical ballads to hard edged, funk inflected grooves. Her song writing reveals a complex, sophisticated rhythmic and harmonic sense but springs from a raw innocence that keeps if tuneful and accessible. Maggie''s stories are simple but profound; disarmingly unselfconscious. She underscores her performances with a spacious, ''meaty'' and percussive guitar style which, though compelling, remains unobtrusive and like everything else she does, is an equal and integral part of the whole.

Maggie''s support credits include Doc Watson, Richard Shindell, Tom Rush, Martin Sexton, Chris Smither, Patty Larkin, Bela Fleck, Dan Fogelberg, Bill Morrissey, J.J. Cale, Jefferson Starship, Hot Tuna and Warren Zevon. In addition to performing, Simpson is also a gifted teacher. Her reputation locally and across the country, for her inspiring and celebratory approach to releasing the "ease of excellence" in performance, authenticity and self-expression is on the rise. Four years of rapidly increasing popularity as one of the Planet Bluegrass Annual Folks Festival Song School "performance gurus", has led to her being honored with a permanent home in their select family of instructors.
Maggie is an extremely private person, yet a remarkably moving and self revealing performer. She has been something of a well kept secret but the consensus has reached critical mass that "People need to hear Maggie Simpson''s music."
