12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Progressive Rock, ROCK: Modern Rock

Details:
Los Angeles-based bassist/vocalist Christopher Maloney, who has recorded or performed with artists such as Dweezil Zappa and Lisa Loeb, has just released his debut record Control on Sunset Records. This work was a chance for him to establish himself as a musical artist in his own right after years of working with many world-class musicians. Christopher has created a very dynamic and exciting CD that takes the listener on a musical and highly emotional journey. His unique voice draws you into his world, while his playing keeps you off-balanced and surprised. At the album''s end, you realize that you have experienced something incredibly unique.

"We are very excited to present Christopher''s debut record to the world", says James Halstead, president of Sunset Records. "He''s definitely ready to put his own stamp on the rock scene."

The music on Control is reminiscent of U2, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Peter Gabriel and Sting. Although classified as modern rock, the music contains many stylistic influences. Sometimes gentle, sometimes hard-hitting, the music isn''t just a background for the vocals; it creates a mood and setting for each song on the CD. The lyrics focus on the deeply personal struggles people face with alone and in relationships. Many of the songs segue into each other, further enhancing both the story and the listening experience.

"Musically, I wanted the CD to be diverse enough to keep people interested, but not so much where there wouldn''t be any continuity" says Christopher. From the rocking opener "All Around The Sea", the whimsical, Beatlesque "A Romantic Interlude Part I", the intense, backward-layered guitars in "Promises", the maddening "I Love You", the passionate "Liar, Cheater, Beggar, Thief" to the surprise ending, Control delivers on all fronts.

Control is a CD about the deeply personal struggles we face with ourselves and in our relationships. Instead of writing an album of 12 unrelated songs, Christopher tells a story about the many sides of love, passion, rage, absolution and redemption. Christopher says "I wrote most of the songs for Control at a very difficult time in my life. I was lashing out, withdrawing from people, and I seemed to have no control over my feelings or my life. Then something happened: I started to see myself for who I was. Not who I wanted to be or how other people saw me, but who I really, really was. I started to see the duality in my life, and it took a lot of the pressure off me and answered a lot of the questions that had been plaguing me. The songs started to reflect that. Where once I was writing songs of blame, now I was admitting my own faults, embracing them, and writing them for everyone to see."

The songs from Control definitely reflect this tumultuous time. Songs like "All Around The Sea", "Tell Me", "Reasons To Run", and "Day Like This" are rocking tunes that focus on personal reflection. "To find the source of your problems, you only need to look as far as your own mirror", Christopher laughs. "Every Single Night", "A Romantic Interlude Part I" and "Promises" highlight fears and challenges that come with intimacy in relationships, or as Christopher says "being scarred makeless about opening your self up to someone else." "Can''t Be All My Fault" and "I Love You" are the heaviest songs on the CD, and deal with lashing out during a painful time. The CD also features songs like the incredibly emotional "Liar, Cheater, Beggar, Thief" and the enlightening title track "Control". This is surely the kind of CD that draws you in with every repeated listening.

Christopher continues: "I guess this is the essence of what this album is about. You can hear the progress of a person''s consciousness with each passing song, and it was taken from my search for control. Not control over someone or something else, but a true understanding of who you are. I haven''t gotten there yet, but this album documents my struggles to a certain extent. I think other people will relate to this music and the lyrics. Any one who has gone through anything from romantic breakups, divorce, addictions, illness, even death...anything where they feel that have lost control of their life will find this album therapeutic. It was certainly good therapy for me to write it."

"Of course, you can just put on this CD, totally rock out and not think of any of this stuff too!! "
