SO...who the heck are these guys? (I hear you asking) Well, MADHOUSE is an Orlando based, original pop/rock group. That is the short answer to the question.
MADHOUSE is Anthony Altino (guitar & lead vocals), Jamie McKenna (percussion and vocals), Bobby Brennan (acoustic & electric bass and vocals), Brian Petras (keyboards) and Mark Kiser (drums). The music falls loosely under the "pop" category but borrows (and sometimes steals outright) from many musical styles such as rock, folk, latin, country, jazz and swing. The music is very upbeat, saturated with extremely catchy hooks and lyrics that often tell stories with a decidedly "tongue in cheek" flare. At times it sounds a little "retro" but at others sounds somewhat more contemporary. Groups that have been influential to their style are groups like the Barenaked Ladies, Dave Matthews, XTC, Sting, The Beatles, Crowded House They Might Be Giants and Elvis Costello, just to name a few. It is full of energy and enthusiasm which seems to jump off their discs as you play them. You''re gonna want to use this in place of any of those antidepressants you''ve been taking! THIS music is the antidote to all of that angst ridden, brooding and whiney dark music you will find out there today without becoming overly sentimental, sappy or sickly sweet. (this dog is friendly but every now and then he might nip ya!) All told, it is an eclectic mix of musical styles, humor and 2/3 cup heavy cream which comes together in a cohesive form that is just plain FUN!!
The band''s live shows are quite a spectacle to behold, with loads of antics, props and peculiar dance moves. The music is delivered with energy and musicianship to spare, and the audience is always made to feel they are part of the show. (right up until the moment they climb up onto the stage and grab a microphone...then security has to remove them and they are whisked off to a darkened room where they are tortured & seldom heard from again..)
MADHOUSE performed at the Orlando based portions of the 2002 and 2003 Academy Awards as well as at the opening of Austin Powers "Goldmember" at Universal Studios (yeah baby!). Madhouse opened for The Kinks and A Flock of Seagulls at the Hard Rock Hotel "Velvet Sessions" as well as Six Pence None the Richer at SunFest 2003. A college tour and possibly a British tour are presently in the works...so look out!! MADHOUSE is coming!! (so please have some pizza and beer waiting for us ...we''ll probably be hungry when we get there!)
