Mech Synthetics Real name is Nic Phelan. He was born in Anchorage Alaska, in December of 82, and grew up in a valley town called Wasilla. Nic started to play the drums in 5th grade in the school band class, and in 7th grade began playing the drum set and jamm''n with guitar players.
In 10th grade the 1st real band was formed where Nic played drums in a band called Ariel descent. This band didn''t really begin playing shows untill 2 years later, where their band helped explode the valleys need for music. They at one time packed over 300 people into a small coffee shop with a fire code limit of 100, all while playing with fire and chainsaws.
Later that year their band was asked if one of their songs could be used on a snowmachine video, they were to play at the release of this video at the Sullivan Arena, which is the largest venue you can book in Alaska.
But tense musicians took the stage and stress added with a poor sound check made for a bad show. Afterwards words flew, and names were called and fights almost broke out. Thus the end of Ariel Descent.
But Nic wasn''t going to give up there. Along with co-writing some of the lyrics for the band, Nic wanted to continue to write lyrics, but found he couldn''t unless written to music. He then left America to go teach English in China for a year.
Douring this time he bought a guitar there and began learning how to play. Teaching only on the weekend freed him up to play every weekday, and he soon began to write his own songs. When comming back to America, with almost no money, he began to search for musicians, and began to recored the songs he wrote in China as a demo to pass out to other musicians to say, "Hey this is what I do, if you are interested and want to be in a band..."
While recording new songs were written, and the demo cd was slowly turning into a full lenght cd. And never finding anyone who was serious enough to be brought on to the project Nic Phelan was left alone.
All the songs were recorded at Frozen lake studio''s and then taken back to his house where Nic spent night and day for over a year mixing and playing with sound files. He recorded all his own guitar, bass, and did the vocal tracks. The drums (cause he was short on money) were taken from old recordings from Ariel Descent, and then beefed up with electronic drums to make the sound fuller.
Some of the songs, being written in his first year of playing guitar, were kind of simple and he felt they needed more to them, so he called the help from his old Ariel Descent lead guitar player Chris Koybelnyk. Chris helped him then lay down 9 tracks with sweet solos and melodys that helped make the songs compleat.
Mech Synthetic, is an Industrial rock band, ranging from songs that are a bit slower to songs that are fast and heavy, with a little screeming here and there.
