Details:
Is she the female Ryan Adams? The kid sister of Lucinda Williams? Or maybe just a devoted Wilco disciple? Hmm...however you think of her, singer-songwriter Laura Methvin is definitely carving out her rep as unique voice in roots rock. Her knack for writing gritty, hook-laden tunes, together with her singular, unforgettable voice, are stealing hearts around the globe.

Laura grew up in a house where, on any given day, you might hear Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones or The Pretenders. She started writing and performing original music in Atlanta, where she was the lead singer of The Cave Babies. Later she moved back to her native Florida and started a solo career in Tallahassee. As a solo artist, she''s released three albums: Boy Meets Girl, Sweet Medicine and So Far.

Her songs have received heavy airplay on Tallahassee''s famed college radio station, WVFS/V89, both in regular rotation and on their popular singer-songwriter show, "Legacies." She''s also performed live on the station''s local music show several times.

Laura is also in demand to appear on other albums. Local modern rock station, WXSR, included two of Laura''s songs on a compilation CD of up-and-coming Florida artists, called Locals Only 2.0. She also provided the soundtrack music for a Florida State University student film, "Vodka with a Twist." In 2001, she was asked to appear on another compilation CD, this time a Juliana Hatfield tribute record. Juliana is one of Laura''s idols, so she jumped at the chance. The tribute included Hatfield covers by artists from around the world, from Texas to Sweden to Australia. Laura recorded a live version of Hatfield''s "Cool Rock Boy" in Atlanta for the double CD, which was entitled Become What You Aren''t.

Also in 2001, Laura took up a nomadic lifestyle, living and touring in different cities throughout the year. During a brief return to Atlanta, she performed at some of the city''s best-known venues. Later that year, she moved to Los Angeles, where she performed around Hollywood and Santa Monica. Response from audiences at her appearances in LA was immediate and overwhelming.

...So what''s she sound like? Her sound is a patchwork of her favorite artists. Wilco, Elliott Smith, Ryan Adams, The Jayhawks, The Replacements, Lucinda Williams and Johnny Cash were all big influences on her sound. As for the songs, Laura has developed an uncanny talent for creating infectious hooks and memorable lyrics. "People are always telling me about how they found themselves humming some song of mine for days after hearing it, or how they really related to a line from one of my songs. That''s a huge compliment to me... it''s my goal," she smiles. "I want to write songs that people can dig, but without being sappy or trite. I think I''ve learned how to do that, and I just want to keep getting better."

Laura''s music can now be heard on radio stations not only in the US, but also in countries around the world, including Spain, Belgium, Germany and Canada, as well as on internet radio web-wide. She''s recently been snapped up by Apple iTunes and AOL''s https://www.tradebit.com, which have licensed her songs for digital downloading on their services. Fans from England to Seattle to Denmark have bought hard copies of her records at her exclusive online distributor, https://www.tradebit.com.

Now that she''s back living in Tallahassee, she''s playing live shows around town for the locals. And she''s hooked up with Shelley Weiss on violin and viola, who''s an amazing musician originally from Chicago. Shelley has recorded and toured with the likes of Poi Dog Pondering, The Frames, and Sterolab.

Not about to let down her fans in Tallahasse and beyond, Laura established a home studio in late 2003 and is currently working on material for a new CD. Get ready for a fresh new sound, enriched with lush beats and loops, but still true to her foundation of gritty, authentic roots. She''ll also be working with Shelley Weiss on the new tunes, to add even more cool twists to the sound. Look for the new album sometime in the spring of 2004.
