Naomi Morse and Elvie Miller are part of the contra dance band Mountain Road, based in Oberlin, Ohio, as well as other contra dance and English Country Dance bands based in New England. Naomi Morse, a native of Vermont, grew up contradancing in New England, and has become a sought-after fiddler in New England and the Midwest. Elvie Miller has been surrounded by folk and classical music since childhood, and adds driving rhythm on piano and accordion. The band works together to provide dancers with a diverse, energizing sound.
Grapevine is the product of a collaboration between Naomi, Elvie and four guest musicians. Naomi and Elvie''s families have known each other and shared music and dancing since before they were born. They have shared diverse musical experiences, including playing chamber music together and singing in folk choruses and early music ensembles together. They were inspired to make this recording by requests and pleas from excited dancers.
