At the age of four Leaf Hallelujah Newman began crafting her sound when a family friend brought over an old beat up two- stringed guitar to her Los Angeles home. As her dad would put it, “she just walked over and started playing, her fingers moved like butterfly wings”. Inspired by the sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan Charlie Parker, and Mahalia Jackson, Leaf''s musical talents are undeniable. Her songwriting talents were were featured at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival in the independent film Virgin Again, which has been shown on the Black Family Channel.
Leaf followed her contributions behind the camera by making a move in front of it. She made a guest appearance on an NAACP and Shine Awards nominated episode of UPN''s hit television series "Girlfriends”, guest starring Hip-Hop star Common and renound spoken word artist Saul Williams. Since relocating to Atlanta Leaf started the highly acclaimed live music event “LEAF COOL ECLECTIC”, and has played and collaborated with Dionne Farris, Tiffany Deonna Martin and many other artist. Sticking to her roots of playing in church Leaf has contributed her musical gifts as a band member to Solomon’s Porch Ministries and presently plays with the Cobb Bethel Methodist Church children’s choir in South West Atlanta.
Her highly anticipated EP titled “LEAF COOL ECLECTIC”, co-arranged by Ryan Waters and Zion Birdsong, Executive Produced by Francisco and Alison Mills Newman.
It is clearly evident that Leaf is vocally gifted and her vocal range allows her the ability of performing many different musical styles. Leaf is a talent headed for the top of the music industry. She will be a voice of her generation and her music will captivate the masses.
