"The Mitguards'' brand of folk would be right at home on stage with the likes of Gillian Welch or Willie Nelson."
(Noel Black, The Colorado Springs Independent, Nov. 29, 2002)

The Mitguards'' music is "beautifully layered with "wondrous emotional range."
(Bill Reed, The Gazette, Nov. 8, 2002)

The Mitguards is a three piece band featuring Chris Mitguard on acoustic guitar and vocals, Debbie Mitguard on mandolin and vocals, and Dave Gallupe on bass, acousic and electric guitars, and vocals. Their sound is unique and distinct, a hybrid of musical styles that includes traditional folk, blues, bluegrass, swing and roots. Their original songs and unusual musical arrangements consistently weave humor and tragedy throughout the stories they tell. They have the ability to lyrically portray the complex tapestry of America while reflecting the country''s diverse musical history.

Chris is the songwriter for the band and has been writing songs since he was a young boy in the 1960''s. His songs create powerful, visual, almost cinematic, images. His well crafted story lines are full of twists, turns and irony. They create the perfect backdrop for his sad, beautiful, sometimes dangerous, and always profoundly human characters. His musical influences range from Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, and Mississippi John Hurt to Irving Berlin. Chris'' strong finger picking style defines and drives The Mitguards'' sound.

Debbie Mitguard is a native of Michigan and grew up north of Detroit where she was surrounded by a variety of musical styles. Her musical influences include Joni Mitchell, Memphis Minnie, John Hartford, and the Del McCoury Band. Debbie has played guitar and performed in various venues since she was a young girl but wasn''t inspired to play seriously until she discovered mandolin in 1998. Since that time she has developed a unique and charming style of mandolin. She has a natural sense of composition and theme which adds layers of texture to The Mitguards'' sound.

Debbie has always loved a good harmony and also brings to the band a perfect compliment to Chris'' vocals. Together they have blended a raw, haunting, and powerfully distinctive vocal style.

Dave Gallupe has played music professionally since he was fourteen years old. Most recently he has toured throughout the United States with Junior Brown''s band as rhythm guitar player. He has played many different styles of music through the years with influences as diverse as Django Rhinehart, Johnny Smith, Doc Watson and Jeff Beck.

On the "Same Moon" CD Dave adds a third vocal harmony, and plays bass, acoustic and electric guitar. He has a sensual playing style that supports and compliments the style of the band.

Chris and Dave have known each other for 25 years but only began performing together in the summer of 2001 when Dave was asked to play bass on "Same Moon". Within a short period of time Dave joined the band. Both he and Chris feel that this is a "dream band" and are proud of the fact that they stand apart from other folk based acts. And, indeed, The Mitguards do not fit any standard style of music. They are a band with a sharp sound, and a band that is not afraid to address dark subject matter. The three members of the band are constantly expanding and stretching their material and performance. They are a dynamic band that plays hard and always aims at the heart of their audience which is comprised of young and old alike.
