A composer and multi-instrumentalist, Sean Egan is a fifteen year veteran of the Minneapolis/Saint Paul music scene. His first solo CD features eleven instrumental compositions, performed by Egan on piano, clarinet, saxophone, whistle, and percussion. The music draws on his experience with jazz, blues, rock, folk, world music, and 20th-century compositional techniques, often pushing the material into unfamiliar territory. Hendrix-esque clarinet solos, sax playing inspired by the Irish vocal tradition, in-your-face grooves based on Schoenberg''s twelve tone method, and an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink found-object percussion section are just a few of the elements Egan uses to create music that ranges in mood from quiet contemplation to frenzied hysteria.
