Born in Abilene, TX in 1943 Charlie Taylor was raised in Mayfield, KY and Westport CT where he immersed himself in the hot rod culture of the late 1950’s. In the Downshifters he met a young Michael Douglas and began a life long love affair with building cars.

During these formative years Charlie was influenced musically by his mother Mary Ann, who was a gifted piano player. She exposed young Charlie to Nat King Cole Trio and Big Band music as well as jazz and classical music.

In Lexington, KY at Transylvania University, Charlie Joined Little Hilton and the Artisians, playing sock hops and radio shows as well as doing demos for hit songwriters from Cincinnati.

After college Charlie moved to Greenwich Village and then to Washington, DC before heading to San Angelo,
. There he met Hi Pockets Duncan, Buddy Holly’s manager, who encouraged him to go to Hollywood to develop his songwriting craft. So in 1970 Charlie moved to LA, married Susan Hanley in Malibu and was mentored by Bill Cleary, Papa John Phillips personal manager.

Eventually Charlie began to hang out, play with or co-write with the likes of Kevin Kelly (Byrds), Gram Parsons, Chris Ethridge, Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Andy Summers, Johnny Wieder, Hilton Valentine, Barry Jenkins (Animals), Geoff Gillette, Gus Duffy, Eddie Reeves, Eric Hord, Daniel Moore, and Marco McClure.
Charlie also began to write for ABC Dunhill, Warner Bros., Artie Wayne Music and Almo Irving Music.

While in Nashville, Charlie started a writing relationship with the legendary Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham. Charlie also has written with George Ducas, the late Kent Robbins and Barry Tashian. Charlie has had several songs recorded by no less than New Orleans Spiders legend Chuck Carbo and George Ducas.

Charlie has released Once Upon A Time in 2003, produced and recorded at Dandy Studio by Dan Penn and Geoff Gillette, which garnered attention when it was included in the Grammy Awards Guide in 2003 and was picked by Stereophile Magazine’s Records 2 Die 4 (Feb 2004 issue) as one of the 80 best CD’s released in 2003. The CD utilized all star line up including Rock n Roll HOF member Scotty Moore, Bread co founder James Griffin, Spooner Oldham (Neil Young, Bob Dylan), Mike Durham, Mike Leech (American Studios Memphis and A Team member in Nashville), Dennis Taylor, Barry Tashian and Daniel Tashian.

In October 2007 Charlie again assembled the production team of Dan Penn and Geoff Gillette along with Bobby Emmons, Leech, Durham, Mike Severs, Andy Suzuki, Carlos Y Del Rosario, Matt Combs, Terry Wilson, Jim Brock and Gus Duffy and the Mid Century Modern Jazz quartet as he cut 13 more new songs for his new CD For All I Am, The CD was recorded at Dandy Studio in Nashville with additional recording at Entourage and Visual Rhythm Studio (where mixing and mastering occurred) in Los Angeles.
