Details:
The Monday Milkmen are made up of three diverse individuals with musical influences ranging from funk to jazz and everything in-between. Philip Whitfield, who is the chief songwriter/arranger; as well as Keyboardist, Guitarist, and Lead Vocals; Issa Sall on Bass, and Djallo Djakate Keita on Drums, form the core of the group, and though you will see them performing as a trio, you''ll often find these three augmented by other musicians. This is the other side of The Milkmen. They have integrated the idea of a floating "fourth" member to help create a unique experience for their fans. Many times this "fourth" member is actually several other musicians all gathered together in order to create infectious grooves that capture a crowd. Much like the Grateful Dead, each show is slightly different from the last.

Formed as the brainchild of Philip Whitfield, The Monday Milkmen have been playing to packed houses in both Canada and the US. Their home base is a steady Monday night gig at Milk Coffee Bar (hence the name) in the heart of Windsor''s downtown area. It is here that they hone their skills and bring their brand of experimental acid jazz to an ever widening fan base. It is also a perfect environment to enlist new members to the Milkmen Collective.

The music is heavily influenced by Herbie Hancock and Frank Zappa (although they have been known to play everything from Black Sabbath to Stravinsky). Many times songs will be wholly improvise finding its genesis with Philip''s immortal question: "What you got?", thus beginning the ten to twenty minute musical sojourn that takes everyone on a little trip and sets toes to tappin''. Other times they will weave their way through Philip''s intricate arrangements and original tunes. The beauty of The Monday Milkmen is their ability to allow enough space for each member to stretch out and to do their thing, while trying to push the music and the musicians someplace they''ve never been. A religious dedication to experimentation, as well as their need to, "Have a good time, all the time", is what keeps people transfixed.

Playing music that can excite an audience and has a high level of musicianship has always been the aim of The Monday Milkmen. Their credo of; "Ev''rything I play gonna be funky!" has helped them build a steadily growing fan base in both Canada and the US. With their first CD, The Duct Tape Sessions having made the number nineteen slot on the Earshot charts in 2002, and their second Does This Milk Smell Funny To You? getting airplay in Windsor, London and Toronto, The Monday Milkmen are fast gaining a reputation as a band to keep an eye on.
