Details:
It''s not easy to stand apart in the L.A. Music scene. Amidst the electroclash and the pop-punk lies a band with a heart and soul all of their own. The Mojo Filters.
Although influenced by many, their sound is dictated by none. They play what they like. Although their sound is constantly developing its not dictated by what''s considered "the flavor of the month. " They can move a room full of people without the need or use of electronic gimmickry, so prevalent in dance music today. And somehow
they do it all without falling into the ''throwback'' hole. Despite their nostalgic influences and musical make-up, they are very contemporary." (Adrian Monroy, Skinny Magazine) Their sound is comprised of early
60''s R&B, soul and garage textured with a modern feel. Curtis Mayfield, Small Faces, The Yardbirds, Otis Redding: these bands are but a few of the influences that can be heard in the Mojo Filters.
Born in 1997, the Mojo Filters began as a creative outlet to counter university life. Long-time friends Clifton Weaver and George Karambelas came together with schoolmate Anish Chandra and decided to drink, smoke and play music all day. With addition of George''s brother, Jimmy the core line-up was complete. Practicing their night away in a parking garage, the Mojo Filters polished their sound and
began to play local bars and clubs. As the band began to fine tune their style, they enlisted organist Justin Molnar.

With the George''s soulful vocals, Clifton''s funky bass lines, Jimmy''s driving guitar backed by Justin''s melodic organ stylings and Anish''s tight beats you have the essence of the Mojo Filters. It can not be taken for granted that this band is one of the hardest working bands in Los Angeles. Playing from coffee houses to the Coach House with
anything form punk bands to rock en espanol groups, the Mojo Filters are constantly seeking to expand their fan base. How would one describe the dynamic of this charismatic band? Founding member, George Karambelas, put it best when he said, ''This band is like a marriage. We''ve had our ups and downs but what really binds us is
that we started as close friends. No matter what happens, by the end of the day its about producing something thats good for the group as a whole. Our egos individually are left at the door and picked up again when we go our separate ways." This camaraderie translates on to the
stage in their tight sound and always energetic stage presence. A Mojo Filters show is a show not to be missed.
