Details:
Live convertor Kaffe Matthews and sonic guitarist Andy Moor first performed together as an improvised duo in London in 1998.

The combination of Andy''s energetic guitar work and Kaffe''s serene, highly focused live sampling technique worked well...

they produce a dark, textural sound with extremes in dynamics from barely audible blips and squeaks to massive walls of joyful noise often backed by bizarre rhythmic patterns and melancholic drones.

Their live performance is totally improvised, Kaffe sampling and processing Andy''s guitar sounds in real time and together building tension, with a restless energy that never allows the form to collapse.

Andy Moor began his musical life in Edinburgh, Scotland, playing guitar with the band Dog Faced Hermans, a multi faceted eclectic group that mixed post punk energy with traditional tunes and improvisations.

In 1990 he moved to the Netherlands to join Dutch band The Ex, and is still a full time member of the band.

In 95 he performed his first series of completely improvised concerts as a duet with Terrie Ex.

In 1996 he began another group with Tony Buck (Necks), Joe Williamson and Leonid Soybelman (Ne Zhdali) called Kletka Red, fusing traditional Klezmer, Greek and Russian songs with their own frantic styles of playing.

In recent years Andy has involved himself incresingly with the Amsterdam improvisation scene and performs regularily with Magpie Music Dance Company with Katie Duck.

Recent projects include a trio with John Butcher and Thomas Lehn and collaborations with dancers including Katarina Bakatsaki (Body Weather) and Angela Kohnlein.

He has begun to play more with electronic musicians in recent years including Kaffe Matthews, Cor Fuhler, Yannis Kyriakides and Colin McLean (Dog Faced Hermans).

In the summer of 2000 he composed along with Anna McMichael (New Ensemble) a short soundtrack for Epic, a film by artist Marion Coutts.

Kaffe Matthews has been making and performing new musics via all kinds of digital gadgetry all over the world for the past ten years.

From a background in shopkeeping, a Zoology degree, acid house Engineering and a masters in Music Technology, she is now most known for her live sampling performances of events and places in real time: processing in installation, on stage, galleries, clubs, concert halls, tents, churches, boats, warehouses, or ambient tearooms.

The music is vast, sculpted into textural landscapes, vibrating granular technohymns, noisy and beats via her on stage processing of sound from two carefully located microphones and her midi connected violin.

Recently she has collaborated and performed with Christian Fennesz, mimeo, Charles Hayward, Jon Rose, Pan-sonic, Butch Morris'' conduction, the BROOD, Neotropic (aka Riz Maslem), Kingsuk Biswas (Bedouin Ascent), artist Mandy McIntosh, and some desert research with Australian wire music merchant Alan Lamb.

She has used weather data collected via kites to compose, on the Syzygy project set up by artists Joe Joelson and Bruce Gilchrist on the ininhabited Scottish island of Sanda.
