This album is a re-issue of my sold out classical album, "Five Works for ''Cello" with new artwork and re-mastering.
The first five tracks are ''Cello and Guitar duets with Nashville Symphony and Vanderbilt Blair School of Music virtuoso, Julia Tanner on ''Cello, and myself on Guitar. The pieces here are neo-classical but with a more contempory emphasis on melody and harmony.
The next four tracks feature Julia and fellow Nashville Symphony mate, Anthony LaMarchina, in a Divertimento for Two ''Cellos. The styles range from Haydnesque to Borodin and back to Mozart.
The following two tracks introduce Dr. Robert Marler (the reknown concert virtuoso who teaches at Belmont University in Tennessee) on pian, and Julia on ''Cello playing an interesting pair of pieces, one moody, the other latinesque/pop/baroque in nature.
Julia and her close friend and viola player, Monisa Angell, team up to play my Three Century Suite on the next three tracks. The concept was to write three different pieces each in a sytle about a century apart, so, the Passacaglia starts the set with a style circa 1740. The Cante Jundo (Song of the People) is 1860ish and Jasser avec Les Cowboys (Chatting with the Cowboys) could be comfortably placed as a 1940''s invention.
The final four tracks are from my Petite Suite for Solo ''Cello and are recorded magnificiently by Julia. In solo work, there is no place to hide and Julia shows the totally mastery she has with her ''cello over these quirky little pieces that are, on one hand, very moody and dark, and on the other hand, light and humorous.
