Hello from beautiful Puerto Rico. I am proud of my puertorrican heritage. Some calls me "el abueliatra" which refers to the combination of being a grandfather and a pediatrician. I was born some time ago on this Enchanted Island. Initially, I was forced by my beloved strict mother to play the accordion. I will never stop thanking her for pushing me through! After 12 years of continuous lessons and practices, some frustration about my artistic results in addition with the begining of my profesional medical career, made me stoppped my musical drive. For thirty years I didn''t play this instrument. But something got into me that pushed me back to the accordion again. At first, it was not an easy task. But as doctor with lots of challenging experiences in intensive and emergency pediatric services, the dificulties place in front of my drive towards the music was nothing. After hard work for some years, things started to happened. In addition, I developped a new aspect to my musical hobby. I became a composer. My experiences as a father, grandfather and pediatrician, gave me the motivation to write beautiful themes. In addition, the patriotic drive toward my belovoved Puerto Rico gave me the incentive to write about the freedom of our nation. And who could forget the theme of the beauty of love? All of the sudden, I was composing all kind of music of variable themes and rythm. It was crazy. Never in my live I ever dream of being a composer, less, creating a quality beautiful album the way "Vieja Hacienda Santa Clara" happens to be. But let me tell you somethings about this hacienda. It was built in 1846, right in the heart of our Island, at an altitude of near 4,000 feet. It was the biggest coffee producer of the era and it was recognized as the "best coffee in the world". This aromatic and delicious grain was exported directly to Europe, being the Pope in the Vatican, the most famous client we had. There is a leyend that makes us wonder how really good this coffee was. One upon a time, the Pope and Saint Peter scaped from their daily work in Rome, just to have a brake. Once in the hacienda, they lie down in the hamacas localized in the wooden balcony, observing the beautiful view of the mountains encircle by dense clouds, while hearing the singings of the birds and that of our national mascot,our "Coqui". The temperature at that moment was around 55 degrees centigrade. Not to far away, the currents of the river and a near cascade, rumbled with elagance while each of our distinguished clients drank a cup of this delitious coffee. The uniqueness of this experience is best understood by those whom has had the privilage of spending a couple days in this paradise called "Hacienda Santa Clara". Going back to bussiness: as a new composer and an old accordionist player, my spirits runs high and I am looking forward to create new music that will satisfy me, and at the same time, hoping that sensitive people all over the world will be able to enjoy it.
