Details:
Mal (drums), Geoff (bass) & Robbie (guitar/vocals) all went to high school together, did the same uni course, dropped out of that course, then did the same Music Diploma, and even ate at the same chicken shop, all at the same time and yet did not become friends or form a band until well after.

Emerging from deep within the stagnant social swamp that is Melbourne’s North Balwyn, a particularly strange alga began growing in the minds of three local lads. dooba was born shortly after as they started a highly prolific song writing period: within 8 months, dooba has written over 70 songs, recorded 40 of them and gigged 8 of them.

dooba’s first gig was at the Mont Albert girl guides’ hall, which ran 2 hours late, and saw enough technical difficulties to cut 5 songs off the set list. The audience consisted of at least 11 people who were left more confused than anything else. Mal was mildly electrocuted by a dodgy mic, geoff left the stage during the last song and Robbie nearly ran over a possum on the way home.

Inspired by science fiction, fantasy (and we’re not talking pool cleaners and pizza boys), gangster movies and Mexican food, dooba’s music constructs a charming and unique world that refuses to conform to a sobering reality. Zombies, Broccoli babies, infinite kaleidoscopes of energies and parties are just some of the key themes of this cheeky trio.

A fly on the wall at a dooba gig, positioned carefully among the audience, might hear: "dooba make me happy to be alive!", or cries of "What is going on?" and "Play some real music”, or “I like it!". dooba have been compared to Ween, Regurgitator, The Grates and even to Frank Zappa and Mr. Bungle (mostly by people who haven''t heard either of them). The dooba boys present rock music as it should be: loud, energetic and fun.

A friend of theirs once said that they were his third favorite band of all time.
