Details:
DJ Mixalus presents: The Music Lounge is a various artist compilation project produced by Wayne ”DJ Mixalus” Gomillion that features new sensation Yahadanai amongst other new Reggae artist. It also attempts to capture the dance hall, and neo-soul vibration of today. If you like to listen to Sizzler, Jah Cure, Beres Hammond, Sean Paul or any other Reggae artist out there you will find this a joy and a great addition to your current play list. Just to mention its professionally manufactured (not a cd-r) and has some cool artwork on the cd its self. We took care with the packaging producing it wasn''t cheap.

The way I started doing my own production was a logical step along my musical journey. Although I haven’t had any formal musical lessons on theory or playing, basically, I would spent time in my studio, make beats, mix them and find people I know to “jump on the track”. I was always into music since a little kid my father is a bass player and Dee Jay from Barbados and was always playing out, promoting shows and parties all the time during the 70’ up to the late 80’s. So when he wasn’t home I would get on his technics (a couple of generations before the 1200’s) and spin disco tracks out of his collection I was about 8 or 9. I really didn’t know what was hot so I just went by what I liked and the look of the album or label artwork (like the group Brainstorm had that drawing of a brain on their album). Back then singles came with extended mixes so that was fun.

I would spend hours during the summer just listening to different styles of music but I was drawn to disco (TSOP, Sal soul Orchestra, groups like Skyy, taste of honey and Planet Rock) I think because you could mix from song to song since it had the constant beat. Then from there I would teach myself how to wire it up(the sound system) - Mixers, Amps , pre-amps, eq’s and crossovers it came easy to me. Let’s not talk about the time I broke his concord needles. Eventually somebody bought me a stereo with a record player and a Double Cassette deck…Wow enter the pause tapes(this is where you record music off the radio, cut out the commercials and there you have it a home made mix tape.)

(Fast Forward to the 21st century)
Eventually I began purchasing studio time and just made beats for the fun of it then soon I acquired a drum machine and sound module and taught myself how to use it. This was about 92'' or so. Over the years my house would be the “rehearsal space” where ever I would live. Anybody that wanted to voice would come check me whether it be over the latest instrumental or my own track we would do it. I never turned anyone away or looked at them as an amateur. Before I had a digital recorder we would record straight to cassette tape in one take. Even today I prefer the vocalist to go through the entire song with little or no punch ins. If you really feel what you doing its easy.

So the artist featured here came out of that type of musical ethic so to speak - lets get in the studio and see what happens. A Tv and Radio Degree and music director gig for a local radio station later, we have the Music Lounge.

Currently I have a few projects under way - the first is mixing and mastering of new material from Yahadanai - which will be released soon. My disco roots are emerging and has sparked a collobation project with an upcoming disco diva - we are half through and Im looking forward to hitting up Europe with that one. Personally I''m own the hunt for new sounds and just making my sound better. Under development is a business plan for an online music magazine. Stay Tuned.
