ABOUT THIS RECORDING
The inspiration for this meticulously recorded and produced collection sprang from a performance Musica Sacra gave to complement the art exhibit "The Printed World of Pieter Bruegel the Elder," mounted by the Fogg Art Museum of Harvard University in 1995. Interspersed among motets and chansons of Clemens non Papa, Orlandus Lassus and Claude Le Jeune, the three preëminent Flemish composers of the second half of the 16th century, are chansons of lesser-known composers published by the Flemish musician Tylman Susato. Several works in this collection have not been performed in hundreds of years, and some have never been recorded before. This is a must-have for any serious Early Music enthusiast, scholar, collector or librarian.

ABOUT MUSICA SACRA
From a choral repertoire spanning five centuries, Musica Sacra performs works both familiar and rare, with a crisp passion that awakens the listener to yearnings and joys, sorrows and delights--all that defines and inspires the best in human lives.

Since 1959, Musica Sacra has been performing choral music with the highest standards of musical excellence and a sound that has been called, "gifted," "breathtaking" and "uncommonly fresh and direct." Director Mary Beekman, with the group since 1979, continues to thrill Musica Sacra''s singers and audiences with a varied and engaging repertoire.
