Read what the press has to say about emith and 13 Seasons:

"Cowboy Junkies atmospherics with Fleetwood Mac and Aimee Mann pop sensibilities" - Mac McDonald / Monterey Herald

"the up-and-coming duo emith have created a winning sound and style that is equally thought-provoking and catchy. Building from a folk, pop, and blues foundation, the versatile twosome wander easily from melodic, rootsy, organic creations to more ethereal, darkly cast ballads that dig into deeper emotional terrain. The group’s forthcoming full-length debut, 13 Seasons, offers a mixture of electric and acoustic soundscapes, with Gurr’s tasteful guitar and harmonica work never overpowering the subtler vocal dynamics of Ives. Standout tracks include the haunting "Stone Fences" and "Stuck in Stark Relief", a lovely cover of the Beatles’ sublime "I’ll Follow the Sun," as well as the dryly humorous and quite snappy "San Bernardino." Gurr, who has toured with Elvin Bishop and Dr. John, plays guitar with the understated grace of Leo Kottke, infusing each selection with his own individuality while still working in service of the song. It’s not hard to see why Gurr and Ives have built a strong word-of-mouth buzz, particularly here in Southern California...[emith will] "engage a folk-oriented audience with perhaps a bit more of an edge than they’re used to..."

emith’s "Ives [has a] haunting, lightly accented voice perfect for traditional Irish folk music, but [it''s] also striking when their work crosses into other genres [and] explores tunes with more of a country and pop edge." - editor’s pick, Monterey County Weekly

"...a sound that mixes the real clarity of Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins with the intricate lyrics of early Fleetwood Mac or Fairport Convention..."
Judith Salkin, Desert Post Weekly

"...a musical recipe that includes blues, folk, country and rock with some Celtic mysticism mixed in there..."
Tom Martin, Elko Daily Free Press

"...Not your father’s folk music."
Steve Graham, Arvada Press

Founded in 2003 at a crossroads between Los Angeles and the infamous Inland Empire, emith (“the good life”) is an original fusion of the old and new, of humor and sadness, of the pristine and the profane. The band plays both as an acoustic duo, featuring Carol Ann Ives on vocals and guitar, and highly respected guitarist Stevie Gurr (Dr. John, Elvin Bishop, and others) on guitar, bass and harmonica, and also as a full band supplemented by various pros on bass, keyboards and drums.
