MP3 Tim Mungenast - Birth of Monsters

A swirly, often surreal blend of psychedelia, hard rock, Left Banke pop and a touch of so-called world music; it''s got Doors/early Floyd/Crazy Horse/Gong flavors, but with a sound all its own.

12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Psychedelic, POP: 60''s Pop

Details:
When he''s not dishing out his beloved neo-psychedelic rock and pop, Tim enjoys being part of Boston''s avant garde community. He has teamed with luminaries such as Ken Field, Lauri des Marais, Kris Thompson, (Lothars, Abunai!, Nisi Period), Michael Knoblach (Cul de Sac, Twitcher), Chris Mascara, Urban Ambience, Ross Hamlin, Plasticrazorprotector/2KJB, and Sympathetic Dissonance, in addition to his solo soundscapes.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT TIM MUNGENAST

"For Tim Mungenast, guitar notes are the brushstrokes that create a dizzying
surrealist world where ideas travel on bats'' wings at supersonic speed and
everyone hums ragas as they catch the bus to work. He matches a sharp,
Monty Python-esque wit with an uncommonly wide and intelligent guitar
palette."
Ted Drozdowski, The Boston Phoenix

"Tim Mungenast is an excellent guitar player whose songwriting has a uniquely warped and surreal bent to it."
All Music Guide/https://www.tradebit.com

"Tim works at a very high level of invention and creativity."
Phil Jackson, Zeitgeist--Reflections of the Underground (Scotland)

"Mungenast is a guitar shaman of the most enlightened order, capable of pulling
off devastating nasty leads and Belew-esque chordal shimmering, and all nuances
in between."
Brian Westbye, Face Mag (US)

"Mungenast could be a name to watch out for."
Peter Jolly, Feedback Magazine (UK)

"Mungenast has a knack for writing catchy and oft-times amusing pop/rock...
An original artist who enjoys his music and approaches events from a slightly
different angle."
Terry Craven, The Classic Rock Society (UK)

"Tim is a modern psychedelic hero from Boston that makes true underground music
with a strength of conviction which should place him on the Terrastock stage this
October. Until then I am glad to have his new album on my stereo at home."
Carl Thien, WZBC, Boston

"What can you say about a man whose mind is not only a kingdom but seemingly
an entire cosmos of musical and extra-musical ideas...?"
Francis DiMenno, The Noise

"Tim Mungenast brings a refreshing change from the majority of new pop and
rock - delightfully quirky and unpredictable."
Laura Wilson, WMBR, Cambridge

"Mungenast''s music brings us back to a time when ''progressive'' was not synonymous
with ''pretentious,'' a time when music could be musically and technologically
innovative without losing its sense of humor."
Eric Bove, WMFO, WMUA

"He has a love for unusual sounds and with his voice can transport the listener
to another world."
Erik Philbrook, Playback Magazine (ASCAP)

"Combining the goofy charm (and the poubelle baritone) of Kevin Ayers with Frank
Zappa''s laser-beam sense of the absurd, Mr. Mungenast can write a song about
anything and make it funny."
Ken Egbert, TONE CLUSTERS Magazine

MISSION STATEMENT:
Tim Mungenast takes his nonsense very seriously, with a stubborn, almost messianic sense of purpose.

He plays ''60s-flavored rock that flirts with psychosis, featuring odd chords and even odder lyrics (not to mention some really weird sounds). In concert, his short, improbably catchy songs often melt into loopy extended jams a la early Pink Floyd.

Tim wants to teach us to Jimble the Plamsophic Andante, and mankind will be the better for it.

Born under the sign of Sponge-Matthew, Tim grew up in the frigid, sleepy hamlet of Skaneateles, New York, where he began filtering both High and Low culture through his slightly skewed imagination.

Tim has an alter ego named Jimmy the Goat, who is a full-fledged member of the band even though only Tim can see him.

Tim''s Greyhound, Crystal, is also a member of the band, even though she died in 1997. Throughout her life she telepathically sent song ideas to Tim (sometimes simply whispering them into Tim''s ear at night), and even now, as a spirit-dog, she continues to be his songwriting partner, friend, and familiar.

Tim''s patron saint, Saint Horowitz, watches over Tim''s musical endeavors and makes sure everything is Horowictic.

Objects and themes that are sacred to Tim''s personal mythology include corn (and soft corn tortillas), sponges, chocolate, neat-looking rocks, goats, spores, and good dogs.

Tim currently lives in the suburbs of Boston with his wife and his daughter, with frequent visitations from Crystal the spirit-dog. It is a somewhat tranquil life that helps him create.
