MP3 My Drug Hell - This Is My Drug Hell

Groovy swinging guitar pop with a Sixties edge: very catchy songs with timeless melodies, hooky bass lines, and fresh-sounding harmonies, think The Stones meet the Kinks or the Velvet Underground meet Leonard Cohen. A genuinely great album and one you won

Details:
Formed in 1992 by singer/guitarist/songwriter Tim Briffa, London-based three-piece My Drug Hell released their debut album in 1997 in the US and almost two years later in the UK following the bankruptcy of their UK label just two weeks before the album''s intended release.

It was this kind of bad luck that appears to have followed the band around almost since their inception and has perhaps prevented them from becoming as big as the Oasis/Travis/Coldplays of this world despite (in the opinion of many journalists and fans alike) having a far better set of material.

Typical examples of the "Curse Of My Drug Hell" have included their original drummer leaving on the day of the video shoot for Girl at the Bus Stop (a song that despite being recorded for just £5 ended up being used in a beer commercial and two feature films), the entire stock of their first single being lost in a flood at the pressing plant just as it was made Single Of The week on the UKs Radio 1, the intended front cover shot for their album being lost by a journalist and half their LP master mixes being ruined by a faulty tape machine.

The album might have come out when initially intended, but while working on the final song (entitled "Jinx''s Hole") a studio engineer accidentally wiped part of the track clean.

By the time the studio was free and the band were able to re-record the part, their original label was about to go bust and it was another year and a half before the album was finally released.

Nevertheless, depite their run of bad luck and the fact that the album came out on small independent labels with almost no promotion, the critical and public reaction around the world has been incredible.

In the US "Girl At The Bus Stop" the single taken off This Is My Drug Hell, became the No 1 most requested track on every commercial station it was playlisted on, including a full ten weeks at the top on WHTG in New Jersey.

In Australia it was voted No 57 in the public''s favourite songs for the year on their biggest station Triple JJJ.

In the UK it received numerous Single Of The Weeks, including two on Radio One.(although it was never playlisted.) The Super 8 video accompanying the song (shot for just £350) was also voted best video on MTV''s Alternative OptionReviews for the album were also almost unanimously praising, and a black and white video for the single Maybe We Could Fly is still being shown on VH1.

The band are currently working on their follow up LP provisionally entitled My Drug Hell''s 2nd Album.
