Details:
January 2004: with the pulse of a striking fever in the back of his head, and a worn copy of W. S. Burroughs’ THE SOFT MACHINE resting upon his floor, MASSIMO USAI (guitars, vocals, signals) felt the moment slipping through his hands. A sense of immediacy, an urgency to capture the moment, led him to contemplate RECORDINGS OF THE FLESH.

Later in 2005, after finding two cohorts in MATTEO PIRAS (guitars) and ALESSIO ERRANTE (drums), he began to sculpt that living noise within a number of improv sessions and subsequently released a demo cd, INTRODUCING APOPHENIA, during the Summer of 2006. MySpace feedback followed, and as quickly as the music came and went, so did the cast of musicians involved. Low-end emerged in the guise of GIAIME LOI (bass), who had followed the band as an online listener, astounded by the sonic explorations that were made available. At this point ERRANTE found himself out of the plans, and it was then that EDOARDO VITTORI (drums) was asked to join the ranks in order to keep up with the pace.

With a line up finally secured, results started to kick in: the second demo cd, CIGARETTE SECRETS, came out in February of 2007 and showcased the project’s potential to a growing number of curious ears, while a series of live gigs followed. Reactions from the audience instigated further experimenting and inspired the quartet to reach for more. It was then that, while browsing for a record label and well on the way to releasing a full length album, the band suddenly imploded. After 4 years of struggle, USAI once again found himself alone, staring at the scattered remains of a dream too good to be true.

Left with little or no explanation at all, he was given no other choice but to resume what he had always done and started to write all new songs for a brand new beginning. Immediate help was granted by SARA MELIS (dst keyboards), who lent her talents to create a new mood in which to immerge the new compositions.

With a consistent number of new tracks penned and deciding to go for a full length release, the duo set to find the right people to work with in order to achieve the proper noise. JUSTIN “CHOUT” WOOD (bass, buzz), whose work in the Minnesota based rock duo SMALL WHITE highly impressed USAI (who mastered their latest album), decided to join the fold right away after hearing a sample of things to come.
XAVIER “XEVIFOO” DILME (drums, percs) was another strange encounter. The owner of a largely clicked YouTube channel (one of Spain’s most viewed), the drummer was asked to partake in the project out of sheer curiosity – after seeing his works online, both MELIS and USAI were simply blown away. DILME, finding the new material fresh and exciting, was more than happy to step in.

Once again a complete outfit, the four members indulged in a long preproduction process to make sure things were going to sound just right. When summer of 2008 kicked in, it took just 10 crazed days for this oddly assembled group to record, mix and master the final result: a unique blend of vibrations and groove, over 50 minutes of total madness. Witness ILLUSORY FIELDS OF UNCONSCIOUSNESS: the first step in a whole new dimension – a place where covering the distance from Sardinia to Catalunya and Minnesota takes nothing more than the silent gap between 12 tracks off a long awaited debut cd.
