William Mylar invented Folk Wave to describe his eclectic electric/acoustic sound and animated solo performances in the late 70''s and early 80''s. He is listed in Who''s Who for that very reason. At the age of 7, Mylar began studying music. Since then, music has been a part of his everyday life. A third generation Sacramentan, Mylar has also traveled the world as a musician.
He taught guitar in Texas, performed in New York and Florida, and even played in a band in Israel. While growing up in Sacramento, Mylar worked as a singer and child actor at the Music Circus. A keyboard player while stillin high school, Mylar played with nearly all the popular bands from the Sacramento area. As a rehearsal pianist, he played with members of Steel Wind, Craig Chaquico''s first band, Redwing, Cold Blood, and many others. Mylar performed with Mike Bloomfield, while studying guitar in San Francisco. He has also performed with Norton Buffalo, Blues Diva, Arbess Williams, Joe Craven (David Grisman and Jerry Garcia), Jazz vocalist, Vivian Lee, and the great jazz guitarist, Glenn Hair to name a few.
After many years as a premiere rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist for numerous rock bands, Mylar decided to resurrect his solo shows in 2000. He released a CD, Real Mylar, in January of 2001. The tracks, "I Like It That Way" and "One World. One People" are enjoying airplay on radio stations around the world. Mylar won ASCAP Songwriter''s Awards in 2001 and 2002. He also won the Folk nomination for the 2001 Sacramento Area Music Awards.
William Mylar continues to perform solo and with his band. The Wiliam Mylar Band (WMB) is a jam band in the same vein as the Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, Leftover Salmon, and Phish. A new CD, featuring more of his original music, is scheduled for release in the summer of 2003. Lately, Mylar has also been writing material for other bands, jazz in particular.
