Raised on the south side of Chicago, m.e.e.k. (mind elevation, elements, knowledge) was constantly being exposed to eclectic blends of the old and new. The cultural melting pot of Chicago''s renowned Hyde Park area was the prime breeding ground for some of the most influential artists in today''s music including Common, and R. Kelly. This bohemian haven, a cluster of talented artists, musicians and students gave m.e.e.k. mzteek a love for jazz, soul and all types of music. Growing up in the eighties and nineties her heart was instantly captured by the emerging hiphop culture and spirit. Hiphop became a part of her very essence. As long as m.e.e.k. could remember she used to buy tapes of Slick Rick, Run DMC, Tribe Called Quest, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and many others listening to every note and line.
