Details:
the Rustic Riders play original music with a strong foundation in the American traditions. Lisa Meissner''s original music speaks to living with life’s joys and struggles through humor and grace. Her voice rings with clarity. Klaus Meissner''s percussion drives the tunes and his Latin heritage (you read correctly – Latin) infuse their music with rhythm. Bill Chamberlain’s love of old timey music informs his playing. Together they warm your heart and get your feet moving.
The songs on their debut CD “Hearing Hearts” explore our journey in relationship with others, our world and creation. Sometimes they get you dancing and singing; other times they invite you to pause, reflect and renew. They are informed by Lisa’s experience of music from many peoples, times and places and move the spirit to new understanding. Words and tunes blend to become one. Dan Duggan produced and recorded it at his studio, Esperance Productions, in Red Creek, NY. Joining the Rustic Riders, Dan also adds guitar, hammered dulcimer, bass, piano and udu. Peggy Lynn, a well recorded Adirondack traditional musician and singer/songwriter sings harmony with Dan and Lisa on the 1st track – “Crossing”.
the Rustic Riders have been playing together in various combinations since 1996. Since the fall of 2006 they are playing mostly original material written by Lisa Meissner. Lisa sings and plays guitar, but may also surprise you with traditional tunes on the cello, mandolin and bouzouki. Klaus Meissner plays percussion – congas, bongos, djembe, snare and assorted percussive toys - made Lisa''s guitars and lends his ear to the overall sound mix. Bill Chamberlain often plays with us. He is a talented multi instrumentalist playing vintage instruments and completes the "Riders" sound. The "Riders" influences range from traditional and spiritual music, to classical, Latin, jazz, contemporary folk and rock. Lisa was surrounded by music as a child - her mother sang in the forties across the US and in the Pacific after the War. Her lyrics have been described as poetry in song and evolve from her life experiences with early family struggles – family illness, alcoholism and abandonment - and her career in human services. Faith in the power of the spirit and community drive her music. Klaus grew up in a multi cultural household. His father was fortunate to be able to leave Germany when he was 12 years old, one month before Jews were prevented from leaving the country. His mother''s family was from Puerto Rico. Latin music filled his home. Bill Chamberlain has played and recorded with musicians across the country from the Pacific Northwest to New York and New England. He plays guitar, mandolin, banjo and fiddle. He grew up on rock and roll but his true love is old timey music. He loves being a sideman and seeks to make every break new. In 2008 he played at the International Folk Alliance and the Philadelphia folk festival.
the Rustic Riders love to play! We look forward to meeting you and sharing stories.
