Namoli "darling of the critics" Brennet''s second release promises to intrigue and bedazzle you. Admittedly, Brennet''s gender identity may not have solidified any in the past 12 months, but her songwriting skills continue to mature and shine on her latest release, ''Welcome to the Afterglow''(Dec. 2003). Transgendered artist Brennet merges folk and electronic influences with soaring vocals and poetic lyrics to create a startlingly honest self-portrait. The stark texture of tracks like ''Trying to Try'' contrast with the techno-industrial production of ''Victoria''s Secret'' and ''Breathe'', and the album''s closing track, ''We Belong'', carries a message of diversity and inclusion: "When the same old voices say/That we''d be better off running away/We belong/We belong anyway."
Namoli recently released an EP (Namoli B-B sides: Jan. 2004) and is currently recording her next CD, scheduled for release in June.
