It''s not uncommon for people attending the Hardline Blues Band''s many Edmonton-area shows to walk up to the stage afterwards and ask the same question: "Where the heck did these guys come from?"

The band is made up of Edmonton musicians who are regular working stiffs by day and hardcore blues and rock fans by night. But it goes a little deeper than that. It''s actually the culmination of a five-year effort by frontman Jeremy Loome to develop a particular sound that started with the three-piece Southside Ride, was followed by the Whiskey Kings and ended up in Hardline.

"Most of the other guys in the bands are long-time veterans of the Western Canadian music scene," says Loome. "So there are decades of experience up there on stage. The difference in the reaction to this band has simply been a question of the passion we''re putting into it, I think. That, and our horns kick butt."

That passion resulted in more than 20 nights at Blues on Whyte in Edmonton during the band''s first full year together, in 2007. The band also featured to two shoulder-to-shoulder packed nights at the Drake Inn in Canmore, with an invited to come back this summer. The Drake has been named Conde Nast''s pick for the best pub in the Rockies. Add in side gigs at clubs around the Edmonton region and it was a good year, culminating in the band''s completion of a live CD, There Goes the Neighbourhood, Live at Blues on Whyte. The band also played an acoustic set for the hundreds of thousands of listeners to the K97 FM Classic Rock morning show.

Nowhere Left to Run, a studio CD of nearly all original material is now released and the band will be playing across Alberta and in the region supporting it.
