POP: British Pop, POP: with Live-band Production

Details:
Nathan Timothy was born in Portsmouth in 1972. He spent his childhood in the small mining town of Blaenavon in South Wales and in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. It was in the UAE at the age of 10 that he was introduced to pop music. His taste for great melodic songs came from listening to a variety of bands and artists including the Beach Boys, Paul McCartney, The Bee Gees and Stevie Wonder.

On returning to the UK in 1982, Nathan heard the music of Howard Jones for the very first time and was enchanted by his use of synthesizers and his amazing skill at the piano. Nathan was inspired, and desperate to get his own piano. His parents were slightly shocked a year later when a piano (bought with his hard-earned cash from a paper round) appeared with very little warning on their front lawn. It was on this piano that Nathan began to write music. He recorded all his ideas and dodgy playing onto tapes. He still has these tapes. One day he hopes to have the courage to listen to them again to see just how much pain his parents must have gone through.

Whilst at secondary school Nathan began to act in and write comic plays. In 1989 he got his first lead role in the National Youth Theatre''s production of ''Gregory''s Girl'' and followed this up a year later by acting in and contributing to the writing of ''Drums and Echoes'', which had a storyline not even the actors understood. Nathan also trained and competed with a local athletics club, having discovered his competitive streak and a natural talent for sprinting.

In 1990 whilst studying for his A levels, Nathan set up Purple Dreams with Martin Phillips (Martin went on to set up his own video production company. https://www.tradebit.com). Initially, they were a synth pop band based around whichever keyboards they could borrow, but eventually they purchased their own Korg M1 and O1WFD which were programmed. Martin just had to press play and mime. The band/duo dragged themselves around grotty Welsh pubs to play two hours worth of original material to very small audiences. It was during this time that Nathan studied songwriting with Lee Baxter, who became a mentor and friend, encouraging him to develop his piano playing, singing and melodic writing.

Nathan studied PE with Education at Goldsmiths University London between 1991-1996 and graduated with a BA (Ed) Hons degree. As an athlete he was International standard. His main event was the 110m Hurdles and he won numerous races all over Britain. He represented Wales on a number of occasions and collected various gold medals at Schools and County Level. He has broken County Records and Welsh Schools Records. Nathan was Welsh Senior Indoor Champion over 55m Hurdles in 1991 and was also seeded number 10 in Britain over Hurdles in 1992. He trained with the Welsh Sprints Squad, the Welsh Hurdles Squad and the British Hurdles Squad.

However, Lee Baxter''s sudden death in 1993 marked the end of Nathan''s athletics career, the end of Purple Dreams and a newfound determination to get his songs recorded. In 1994 he went on to record and produce his first solo album ''Out Of the Blue'' which got him the role of singer and front man with the professional function band ''Take 5'' led by saxophonist Nick Beston. Take 5 have performed at hundreds of venues over the years, notably, Blenheim Palace, Leeds Castle, The Café Royal, Hampton Court Palace and a Chateau in France.

Whilst taking a music industry course in 1994, Nathan met Guy Fletcher who was chairman of the Academy of Songwriters Composers and Authors at the time. He recorded a number of Nathan''s songs and published them through his company Singular Music. Guy helped Nathan develop his songwriting skills and introduced him to Mark Glentworth and Isobelle Ward. Together they formed a production team.

In 1998 Nathan worked alongside Trevor Jenkins at Boosey And Hawkes and had vocal training with the opera singer Jane Highfield. Whilst working at Boosey and Hawkes, Nathan met sound engineer Chris Madden (The Waterboys) who still works with Nathan to this day.

In 1999 Nathan set up the production company Fuzzyfelt Music and produced and recorded his second album ''Corrections'' in just one week. This album and subsequent albums have been distributed by https://www.tradebit.com. Some tracks from ''Corrections'' were played by Steve Wright on his Radio 2 programme Sunday Love Songs.

In 2000 Nathan produced and recorded his next album ''Just Back From Hong Kong'' in just two days. This album has yet to be released.

Nathan recorded a 13 track live album ''Live in Las Vegas'' in 2001. In the same year he co-wrote (with Scott Bailey), produced and directed his first children''s comedy musical ''Remote Control'' for Hillside Primary School in Orpington, Kent.

Nathan went on to write and direct three further productions at Hillside; ''Cowboy, Cowboy,''(2002) ''Bang!''(2003) and ''Has Anyone Seen My Parrot?(2004). The album ''Sing Between the Lines'', a compilation of the songs from all four musicals, was released in 2004.

In 2003 Nathan went on a 14 date UK tour ''Piano 30'' with pianist Steve Corley (MD for Alison Moyet, Roland Gift). All tour dates were recorded for future release.
