Details:
Willow Brocke
Singer/Songwriter

Originally from Los Angeles, California, singer/songwriter Willow Brocke (rhymes with Spock) has been writing and performing since she was a child. Her soothing soprano voice has been compared with Eva Cassidy & Linda Ronstadt, with the rich low tones of Karen Carpenter.

Starting her professional career in Canada as a teenager in the 1980’s, her popular dance band, was regularly booked up to two years in advance for corporate events and high-profile galas. She performed at the opening of the Calgary Eaton Centre, the Banff Springs Hotel Convention Centre and her female vocal trio Escapade was also extremely well received in local venues.

She was awarded a national FACTOR grant in the 1990’s for her original songwriting and was a featured artist on CFCN television. She attended the Selkirk College Jazz Studies program in British Columbia for two years, and worked as a studio session singer on contract with Raven Recording of New York in the 1990’s. She recorded a bestselling album for Raven titled “Ritual” which was recently re-mastered and re-released. Her songwriting influences include Steely Dan, Ricky Lee Jones, Carly Simon and more recently TK Tunstall and Imogen Heap.

Recently, Willow has focused on composition and has been co-writing with jazz pianist Sheldon Zandboer. She will release her first self-titled CD of original music on September 20, 2008 - including eight original songs and two covers. The project draws on the talent of some of Alberta’s best session players who provide outstanding performances. Her music fits into an adult contemporary or smooth jazz format with memorable pop melodies over beautiful jazz harmony structures and irresistible grooves– reminiscent of bands such as Steely Dan and Jamiriquai.

Willow’s self-titled debut CD was released in September 2008 and features:

Sheldon Zandboer, Keyboards
Aaron Young, Guitars
Rubim DeToledo, Electric Bass
Simon Fisk, Acoustic Bass
Tyler Hornby, Percussion
Al Muirhead, Trumpet
Richard Harding, Saxophone
Johanna Sillanpaa, Background Vocals
