Details:
There''s this vibe that hovers about Ned Evett like some force field out of "Star Trek." It gives you the distinct impression that Evett, the inventor of the glass-necked fretless guitar, is destined for greatness. Chat with him for a few minutes and even if you don''t believe in fate, you''ll feel the vibe. Hear him perform his music and it will resonate even deeper.

Evett is one of the world''s foremost fretless guitarists, and the sumptuous sounds he seduces from his instrument''s strings fuse rock with jazz, blues, soul, and a smattering of pop. The lack of any interposing frets (the series of metal ridges set across a traditional guitar''s fingerboard) frees Evett to play every note you can conceive of and all the ones in between. And a bewildering array of effects lets him capture and loop guitar riffs on the fly that - as he plays over the top of them - create the impression of multiple guitars.

The net result is a sound that''s best described by the artist himself: "Miles Davis meets Kurt Cobain," the subtitle for a tune Evett has been performing since 1996 called "Slacker Jazz."

Evett, who hails from Boise, Idaho, plays a Fernandes Fretless Native Pro with a mirrored glass fingerboard of his own invention, as well as stainless-steel and aluminum fingerboard models built by Fernandes Guitars and luthier Steve Abbett. Evett''s line of Fernandes fretless guitars are played by such artists as Adrian Belew of the legendary progressive rock group King Crimson, Emmy-nominated composer Stephen James Taylor, Dweezil Zappa, and Martin Gore of Depeche Mode, and his Web sites : https://www.tradebit.com and https://www.tradebit.com are the Internet''s leading resources for building, playing, and buying fretless guitars.

Evett and his music are gathering increasing acclaim. According to guitar-god Joe Satriani, "Ned Evett plays a mirrored glass fingerboard in a completely new and exciting way." Fingerstyle Guitar magazine concurs, writing that "Ned Evett will make you rethink the plucked-string instrument," and https://www.tradebit.com says his music is "like listening to a waterfall on fire."

"Hear Ned play before you die - it should be the 11th Commandment," advises https://www.tradebit.com, and Seattle Stranger, a weekly entertainment newspaper, writes that "Evett''s technique on the fretless guitar comes praised from every quarter, especially his performance of what are described as "unearthly, theremin-like glissandos that create whole new landscapes of sonic possibilities."

Evett, whose career spans nearly two decades, has recorded with dozens of bands and artists, including Maria McKee, China Forbes of Pink Martini, Rosalie Sorrels, and Built To Spill. In fact, the song "Some Things Last a Long Time" on the 1993 Built To Spill album "The Normal Years" features the first recording of Evett on the fretless guitar.

In 2000, Evett released his groundbreaking, experimental solo debut, "An Introduction to Fretless Guitar." Last year, Evett co-produced and performed on "Fretless Guitar Masters," the world''s first compilation recording of fretless guitarists and the inaugural CD from his label, https://www.tradebit.com Recordings.

Both albums are available at https://www.tradebit.com, https://www.tradebit.com, and https://www.tradebit.com.

Evett has also worked as a session guitarist and bassist. In addition to the Fox NFL 1998 season theme, Evett''s guitar licks have been heard on numerous radio and TV commercials for such industry leaders as Microsoft, Toyota, Isuzu, Seagate, and Kaiser Permanente.

He has toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe, including performing opening spots for Joe Satriani''s ''Strange Beautiful Music Tour'' summer 2002. In April 2001, Evett was a featured performer at "La Nuit De La Fretless" ("The Night of the Fretless"), the world''s premier fretless guitar festival, which is held every other year in Mende, France.

Evett endorses Fernandes Guitars and Line 6 amplifiers and effects.
