After spending a few years together writing unheard music and original lyrics, Scott Logan and Scott Anderson started to put their song writing team on the road and began performing together in 1994. "We were actually only planning on writing. We thought about putting together some tunes, and seeing what we could do about getting them into the hands of some of the publishing companies," Logan says, "One day we went to our local church to use their tape deck there. We were going to put together a collective works to send off to the copyright office, when a drummer friend of ours sat in on the session and asked us why we weren''t actually performing the songs ourselves. We just kind of looked at each other and said why not." It was a couple of months after that, that the duo performed their first show at a small local coffee house in Bangor , ME. It was there that they started to see what plans God had in store for them.
Through out the first few years between 1994 and 1997, Logan and Anderson had played with a couple of other musicians, and had also traveled all through out their local area ministering at various festivals, churches and coffeehouses. It was during this time that they had worked up a hard rock style that was being likened to artists such as Grammatrain, Bride, and Guardian who were all representative of that era in Christian rock music.
In 1997, with some lineup changes, it was then that they decided to go under the heading of Three Days Down. Continuing on in that hard rock style, they brought on good friend and drummer Darren Elder, who has later gone on to be better known as the drummer for The Kingpin Wrecking Crew. Through this lineup, Logan and Anderson started to add a little bit of an acoustic guitar element in the music, writing songs like "Consequence of Love" (being released on the new record).
In summer of 1998, Three Days Down had taken a sabbatical from performing. Darren Elder had followed God''s calling to start the KPWC with his brother Doug, and both Logan and Anderson felt that they needed to take some time off. It was a time for re-focusing and working solely on just building a deeper personal relationship with Christ. It was through this time that a whole lot of new songs were birthed, and also what was to become the style that Three Days Down is most known for today. Both Scott Logan and Scott Anderson had laid down their electric guitars and started to primarily focus on acoustic guitar music. Anderson bringing a more folk style into it, while Logan started writing songs with more of an upbeat pop/jazz feel. In 1999, the two came back together to form the duo that 3DD fans have come to know and love today.
With a new focus, and direction, Three Days Down had seen a rebirth. It has been during this last four year period of Logan and Anderson''s history together that they have seen their most success. In 2000, they recorded their first album, a 5 song EP titled, Prelude. With the album''s release in 2001, the band received much airplay on various radio stations through out their home area of New England as well as other parts of the country. In late 2001, the song, "Faithful" was declared the #1 song on https://www.tradebit.com''s indie charts. It stayed at the #1 spot for six weeks. It was soon after that, "My Beloved" hit #1 for nine weeks, and after that, "I Believe" hit #1 as well.
In early 2001, Three Days Down brought on local sessions guitar player John Regan into the mix. John played with the group for a couple of years until Fall of 2003.
Since Scott Logan and Scott Anderson came back together in 1999, with their current popular style today, they have appeared with artists such as Geoff Moore, Russ Lee, Seventh Day Slumber, Sara Groves, Siler''s Bald, Justin McRoberts, and most recently Downhere
In December of 2003 another turning point faced Three Days Down. It did not take long for the band''s name to become an issue after the up and coming secular rock band, Three Doors Down came onto the scene. As a matter of fact the band was continually being reminded by people at each show that the name reminded them of the secular band. A lot of times the band would continually be asked if they chose their name in order to ride on the popularity of Three Doors Down. "I can''t believe the problem it became," says Logan, "I mean even people who have been listening to us for years were actually saying, ''I almost called you Three Doors Down,'' and after a while we basically got tired of it. There is no way to get past something like other than changing our title. Believe me, I have nothing wrong with the Apologetics, but I did not want people picking up our cd and thinking that we had the same type of parody ministry. We knew it was time to change the name."
At the end of 2003 Three Days Down was finally laid to rest. Not the ministry of Logan and Anderson though. They went on to start 2004 off as a new era with a new name. Then began New Mercy Morning. The year 2004 will make the tenth year that these guys have performed and ministered together. It is in the tenth year that they start all over again. With the release now of their first full length album, this marks the beginning of a new day for Logan and Anderson. How fitting the new name is... New Mercy Morning...
