An Australian artist.........Irish background........American name.....Living in Europe!

Old school Funk, Rock and Blues meets New school Sounds…..

A prolific, Dramatic Songwriter.

Memphis Nights started off in Melbourne, Australia. Born in 1975 and raised in the suburbs, Memphis was educated in private Christian and boarding schools. As soon as he could, Memphis soon headed to the city where the artistic community was opened up to him on the dark sub-culture streets.

Learning from the lower class and the hardness of the streets, Memphis took this to the country in 1993 for "The peaceful life".

Hibernating for nearly a decade in a van in the high country, Memphis wrote and recorded on cheap audio cassettes. Infused with all the experiences of his current and past surroundings Memphis amassed over 350 pieces before venturing out of the van.

In 1996 Memphis formed the band: “The Swamp Cats”. A 4 piece outfit of guitar, drums, Harmonica and Memphis on Bass and vocals, the band played a mixture of originals and covers in a swamp rock/blues theme.

-----------------------------------------------------------
“…………The Swamp Cats were a band of the worse kind....We made Spinal Tap look professional. The truth is we only got together so we could get back into the bars that had banned us. We were a 4 piece swamp rock/blues band that definitely weren''t in the business of bringing sexy back!…………”
-----------------------------------------------------------

After a few years playing Smokey backhouses, outhouses and roadhouses, Memphis got bored of the small town attitudes towards original music and needed to return to the city to pursue his music.

In 2003, and after leaving the band, Memphis arrived back in Melbourne armed with his voice, his Bass and his recordings. However the city had changed.

With downloads, the internet and it’s destruction on the artist, Melbourne was no longer a place for art. Venues had closed down, incorporated poker machines or refused to support musicians. Playing what shows he could, as well as on the street, it wasn’t long before Memphis needed to leave the “sporting” country all together in preference for an artistic one.

In 2008 Memphis arrived in Vienna, Europe.

A soloist on Bass with a blues voice, working with drum and bass/techno samples, Memphis brings it all.
Half country - half city, influenced from a vast variety of social, economical and religious backgrounds, Memphis Nights is a musician who constantly grows and progresses as he experiences…..A musical documentary lies in his wake as he now crawls through Europe.
