€ Nik Rael''s debut solo CD "Worlds Fade Away" produced by Van Morrison guitarist, John Platania, has just been released.

€ Nik''s last name is pronounced "Rail"

€ Nik follows in the footsteps of other teachers that have crossed over into music that you may have heard of, Sting and Sheryl Crow.

€ Nik was the leader of one of Philadelphia''s seminal bands -- HeadSoup.

€ Born in LA, moved to New Jersey. And recently has grown to love the Hudson Valley.

€ Nik''s father, Rich, was also a bassist and vocalist for a number of California groups in the 60''s including The Groove Company.

* Nik grew up listening to his parents records.

The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Cream, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison, Stevie Wonder and Joni Mitchell just to name a few.

* Nik is not sure exactly what the first record he purchased on his own was...but he is sure it was a band with a lead singing bass player. Nik is huge reggae fan and counts Bob Marley as one of his greatest influences

* He began writing songs on the piano when he was 13 but soon found that bass was his instrument.

€ Shortly after he joined Fish Head Soup he discovered Reggae and dove into it head first.

€ After college Nik became a substitute teacher for a short time. That experience curbed his teaching aspirations for a while.

€ He formed Headsoup with Eric Grear on guitar and drum machine. Nik played bass and sang and drummer Brian Flanagan was soon added.

€ The band built a very strong following in Philadelphia and South Jersey. When the band was reviewed it was often said that their sound was Jimi Hendrix meets The Beatles meets Bob Marley. Who knows???

€ The first Headsoup CD was released...and became a staple on indie stations in the Philadelphia area.

€ If there''s a jam happening anywhere Nik will be there.

"Music is what keeps me going".
