Details:
Jeffrey L. Richardson is a activist and organizer whose music grows out of a commitment to social justice and a spiritual faith that recognizes the fundamental oneness of humanity. His debut recording, “Another World Is Possible,” is set to an energizing Afro-Latin beat. The English/Spanish version features renowned Salsa artist, Bobby Rivas.

Jeffrey believes that art and politics can be a force for change. He has used spoken word and music to help move people to think and act for better living conditions. After working as a journalist, in community organizing, and in job development, he directed a component of one of the largest Black labor organizing efforts in recent history seeking union recognition and living wages for workers. He then went on to direct one of the nation’s leading social justice foundations. He is currently working to bring green jobs to low-income and people of color communities.

He says that his musical and professional commitments stem from “the beauty of family love, care, and hard work of Black people." Still, he says, growing up, "I also saw far too many brilliant, potential-filled lives worn down and destroyed by the structural violence of poverty and racism.”

The song “Another World Is Possible” incorporates the message music, blues, R&B, jazz, funk and gospel music that flowed through Jeffrey’s household during his youth. He counts artists such as Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield and Earth Wind and Fire among his influences. The message music of Bob Marley, Gil Scot-Herron, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Steel Pulse, and Fela Kuti are also amongst his favorites.

His travels to West Africa, Cuba, Central America and the Caribbean have added breadth to his music and deepened his analysis of the unjust economic and social conditions that his songs challenge. Jeffrey’s music inspires us to believe and act to make sure that another world is possible.
