Born in New York City''s El Barrio into a Puerto Rican musical family, Johnny Colon has been singing and playing since the age of three. He has recorded half a dozen hit albums, including such tunes as “Merecumbe,” “Cuero Estirao”, and “Mi Querida Bomba.” His “Boogaloo Blues," set the tone for the boogaloo era and survives today as the anthem for this period in Latino music history.
With this album, Johnny turns to another side of his culture, the popular American songbook. Like most of us, he grew up hearing and loving this music at home.
"We performed these songs live instead of layering separate tracks and then pulling them together," says Johnny. "All the songs you hear in this recording were recorded on the spot just as though they were being performed on stage. The result is the feeling that you are right there in the studio with me.
