Details:
“A great song speaks to the depths of the soul. There is nothing like hearing a live performance of a great song by a masterful artist. A good listener transcends the experience of being ‘entertained’ and becomes a participant in an exchange of energy that elevates the spirit. This is the realm of inspiration that, in today’s American culture, is becoming frighteningly scarce.” ~Jorge Udler

John Katchur became a notable force on the San Diego singer/songwriter scene in the early 90’s, winning the San Diego Music Award for Best Acoustic Artist. Katchur has perfected his craft by performing and producing music for nearly 20 years. His music ranges widely in genre but is distinct in style. By merging acoustic/songwriter sensibilities with eclectic textures of various styles, Katchur leaves description plausible for only one tune at a time.

His recordings offer complex depth and an emotional dimension both soothing and fierce. Those who take to a John Katchur album tend to wear them out. In an age of mix CDs and downloadable singles, the complete journey offered by listening to an entire CD in sequence is an experience people are losing. There is an art to putting together a sequence of songs to create an experience that transcends the sum of its parts. John Katchur’s recorded efforts strive to keep that art form alive.

Of his newest CD, Beauty and the Terrible Things, the San Diego Troubadour says, “Acoustic and electric guitars, drums, organ, electric piano, and ambient textures carry elements through lush soundscapes like magic flying carpets.”

As a performer John has a reputation of captivating delivery and a repertoire of some of the best songs you have ever heard.

“I try to expose people to great songs. I collect great songs written by artists from all over the world. I try to deliver songs that you probably have never heard, but deserve to…and I try to deliver them in an effective way.” ~J.K.

The San Diego Troubadour says, “… (John Katchur) plays guitar with equal measures of grace, complexity, and fearless confidence… (with) an unbelievably effortless, sonorous, aching voice.”
