Junk Poet was conceived in Ames Iowa in 1994 when brothers Jay (guitar) & Rich (drums) Lyon and bassist Joel Grau hooked up with singer Jon "Fu" Fullerton. The band found their groove in writing right away and recorded their first album with Cellar Records in Dixon Illinois later that year. The album, entitled Junkpoet, was released in early 1995. They played regionally as much as possible supporting the album while constantly writing new material. Recording of the second album began in January of 1996 in the personal studio of Brian Vance, a friend and supporter of the band. The new studio environment allowed for more control and convenience being located much closer to home. The band released the album on their own on August 17 of 1996 with a big beach party south of Des Moines Iowa with a handful of local bands/friends opening the show including Des Moines'' own Slipknot. A couple months later, Rich left the band and actually quit playing all together. He was replaced by Paul Thompson. Paul was replaced on drums in the summer of 1997 by Greg Stravers. In the Spring of 1998 Fu was replaced by Matt Biegger, only for a short time before ultimately the band split up completely in the fall of the same year. Everyone went their separate ways. In 2008 the original four members got together again after over a decade apart, and seemingly picked up right where they left off... writing Junk Poet music and playing their first show after reforming to a sold-out crowd on September 20, 2008. Look for new music from Junk Poet in 2009.
