Terrie Hawkins an aspiring singer and writer has performed and grace the walls of churches to some of music’s greatest artist of our time. Receiving numerous awards and recording in studios across the country Terrie has embarked upon a solo career and focused her artistic umbrella of ideas.
Terrie has sung backup for such artist as Mariah Carey, Sean Puffy Combs, New Kids on the Block and several PBS documentaries.
Terrie Has performed at Carnegie Hall, Alice Talley Hall, Giant Stadium, and Yale University and throughout the Metropolitan New York City Area. Associated with Christian Faith and with so much music in her life it was a matter of time Terrie recognize music was in her blood.
Her Influences span from the likes of artist such as Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Billy Holiday, Clark Sisters Walter & Edwin Hawkins and Andrea Crouch.
Terrie’s first exposure to gospel music was at a very early age. Terrie began singing at the age of 9 supported by a talented family and close siblings.
She was inspired and encourage by her family to develop her natural ability as a singer. Her family also provided the security and support she needed as a youngster when she started singing in the family gospel group.
She then performed with her local choir The Gospel Exposition at age 12. Here she performed on stages all across America. In 1979 she recorded two leads during her teenage years eventually became a member of the CD Hawkins founded by her Husband. The base New York City ensemble became popular with their soulful sound throughout the country and received many accolades.
As recipients of the Sony Innovators Award in 1991, the group received the Gospel Academy Awards for Best Non-recorded group. They also received an award from the McDonalds gospel fest in 1990. In 1995 the CD Hawkins signed their first record deal under the Word/Epic Sony label. Terrie sung and received co-production credits on that project.
Terrie’s recent project reaches beyond the boundaries and stirs the inner emotions with Ballads like “Ordinary People” introduced by the late Danniebelle Hall. Terrie conveys inspirational thoughts and depth through her music that God still has a purpose for your life. And it is Gods work that she is doing. Terrie’s plans for the future are those to inspire. “I started singing in small churches at a young age ceasing the opportunity from arenas
to concert halls to fulfill a legacy and a dream. “Terrie is a humanitarian and has helped various scholarship programs to raise money to assist young people with college.
