The Rhythm Method were formed in late 2007 by Rich ‘Ri’ Hayes (Lead vocals, synths), and Kev ‘The Soul Scientist’ Norris (Bass guitar, backing vox); and after a heroic search were joined by Chris ‘Krik’ Young (Guitar, backing vox) and Andrew ‘Sandool’ Sanders (Drums) during early 2008. A melting pot of influences, their unique brand of music is nigh on impossible to pigeon-hole, prompting one reviewer to label them ‘genre deviants’. Opinions vary but tend towards a blending of funk/ soul grooves, with undertones of indie-rock, overlaid with dance/electro style synths. Paul Barrow says funky riot music, you say……?
In previous incarnations the method have individually knocked up some notable achievements, with highlights including live appearances on Radio 1 and at Glastonbury’s dance tent, numerous gigs and tours across the UK, Ireland and Europe; several album and single releases, original music gracing both the big and small screen, and winning several acclaimed music competitions including, Smirnoff New Band Competition, The Hotpress / Heineken Green Energy New Band Competition. Their list of support slots reads like a who’s who of music, including: The Wailers (3 Times!), Damien Dempsey, Hothouse Flowers, Toots & The Maytals, Sly & Robbie – with Michael Rose (Black Uhuru), Jimmy Cliff, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Bad Manners, The Beat, Nightmares on Wax, Humanzi, Republic of Loose, Beenie Man, Damien Rice, Lir, Jah Free, Nucleus Roots, Mad Professor, Pugwash, Junior Murvin, The Frames, Subsource, The Egg, Unkle Jam, to name drop just a few!
As The Rhythm Method, the band played their first live gig after just one rehearsal, to an enthralled audience which responded with roof-raising applause and cheer; leading one established promoter to rejoice ‘the saviours of Cardiff’s dying music scene have arrived!’.Within a few short months they have become an established part of Cardiff’s live music landscape gaining notoriety for their spontaneous, high-energy performances and in demand with promoters and punters alike.
The band are currently putting the finishing touches to their debut EP, due for release in October 2008. The EP was financed through prize money from Roland UK, when the band came runner-up in a best new music competition out of over eighty short-listed acts. The launch of the EP will be celebrated in Ten Feet Tall, Cardiff, and followed by a full UK tour, supported by Ireland’s biggest rap-electronica outfit ‘The Infomatics’.
Promo copies of the forthcoming EP are being excitedly received, and generating more and more interest from within and without the industry. With offers of gigs tours and film scores, the rest as they say is the future…………..
