Details:
Dialogues With The Rain is a collaboration of electronic and symphonic media to produce a singularly striking album. In this album are found some of the extraordinary talents of The Bay Area Philharmonic itself and some of its soloists as well as the talents of the composer and electronics performer, Michelle Ende''. The album coaxes the listener into a world of rain and water, fog, mist and cloud.

Rain Journey – (15:22) The work opens with traffic noises, sirens and a great thunder crack that seems to open the sky, letting in supernatural forces. As we spread our arms as children, we embrace the rain and close our eyes, letting the rain take us where it will. And as we do this we begin to lift through the rain, through the clouds toward the higher reaches of atmosphere. We begin to drift beyond the air into space, past the storms and into a quieter realm of Ionosphere breezes and Stratosphere currents. We look back upon our Blue Planet as satellites pass us by. A great bell, like some kind of cosmic door shuts, and we find ourselves drifting as rain drops among the tops of storms as we slowly return to earth in the form of rain. We hear great music as we plummet toward the earth and we realize that it is the sound of rain itself in the form of music. Great horns call from cloud to cloud. Great strings echo and refrain as the sky acts as one great cathedral. And then we are once again home.

Atmospheres – (8:38) Atmospheres is an eerie piece of music depicting the boiling atmosphere of clouds and storm. The listener is transported through clouds and wind in a meditation on storm and air, rain and mist. The piece ends with the shake of a Shaman’s rattle, perhaps calling the atmosphere to gather as rain and storm and replenish the earth.

Fogs and Mists – (11:06) Fogs and Mists opens with wind as it blows across some exotic landscape in search of a place to gather the atmosphere into dense fog, humid mists, and drenching vapors. Chilling haze hangs from the mountainsides like great fingers of ice. Slowly, the mists are dissipated by the coming rains falling across the tops of trees; great rain forests spreading for as far as the eye can see.

Ocean Rains – (11:20) Ocean Rains lead us into the Atlantic where storms wheel into great hurricanes of thunder and might. The piece opens gently enough with the sound of waves and flutes like little birds circling over fish. Thunder is heard in the distance but it is not worrisome as we are lulled into peace by the repetition of the waves. As the piece moves along we seem to move from the ocean to a lagoon where birds are telling their stories to us as rain gently sweeps over this little oasis in the ocean. Again we hear thunder, but it is not troubling. How could we be troubled in such a pleasant place?

Rain’s Children – (7:28) A delightful little peace which captures the play of children in the rain. The work starts with rain and the sound of birds. Everyone in post production commented on the fact that the sounds of the birds and the sounds of children were remarkably similar. Children, like rain, are among the true blessings of this planet. No matter what else is out there in the universe, there truly is no place like home. The voices of these children, the birdsong, and the ever present sound of rain and music remind us of this here. This is perhaps the composer’s favorite track among all of those in this album.

Rain’s Beginning – (10:22) We return once again to the ocean, looking for the source of all rain. A solo cello takes us on this journey both above and below the wave. In this piece, the Bay Area Philharmonic once again shines, as in the first track, as we explore the sources of rain and the grandeur of a rain event. Most people take rain for granted until they’ve been to a place where rain falls rarely. Upon returning to a rain soaked place, they soon realize the blessings of rain. In this piece we hear through music, the opening of the sky and the release of blessed water. What a horrible place this planet would be without the comfort of rain. The work ends with an almost sacred chorale as praise for the Creator who chose to bestow upon us, this blessed rain.

Rain’s End – (14:10) As our last piece in this offering, we take the listener to the brooks and streams which run throughout the world as they topple from high points to low points looking for the sea. Here is where rain winds up, bubbling away toward the ocean and set here amidst some Northern forest, a group of musicians play random melodies in an abstract narrative, almost a meditation on the journeys of rain. So ends this album with our thanks to you for listening, and hopefully, enjoying. – Michelle Ende’

About the Bay Area Philharmonic
Much to the chagrin of many skeptics, an all volunteer organization can still thrive in this cynical generation of financial crisis, greed, and “me first” thinking. The Bay Area Philharmonic is one of those institutions; a dream come true for many of the participants involved. Although their main alliance is with the composer Michelle Ende’, they are involved singly and en masse’ in the education of children and adults in the magnificence and necessity of music in the life of a human being. Whether the music is rap, gangster, easy listening, or classical makes little difference to this organization as they are literally musicians for music’s sake. The organization operates on a shoestring budget and most of the expenses are absorbed by the members themselves. Any proceeds from albums go first to Annuit Music and are immediately distributed in whole to the members who have participated in making the album come to life.

About the composer
Michelle Ende’ was born in Chicago in 1955 and was educated at the age of 5 – 15 in piano and organ. Attending Lane Technical High School, she expanded her skills to the Pipe Organ, the Violin, and Viola. Her studies at Lane Tech enabled her to find her first love, composition. Learning Harmonic and Counterpoint Theory as well as Orchestration, she excelled in her studies, composing some of her earliest works at this time; among them The Goblin’s Dance, The Norsemen’s Overture, and an Overture to Bacchus. She resides now in Lutz Florida, just outside Tampa, where she works with her colleagues at composition and the production of new classical and healing music through her small company, Annuit Music.
