MP3 Onelung - Nu Scientist

Nu Scientist is a rich, cinematic listening experience full of upbeat samples and catchy riffs mixed into a heady brew by studio boffin Onelung.

14 MP3 Songs
ELECTRONIC: Down Tempo, ELECTRONIC: Dance

Details:
Nu Scientist, by Onelung delivers a tasty mash up of funky electronic grooves, lazy beats and experimental soundscapes.
On this, his fourth album, Onelung aka New Zealander Kevin Tutt serves up a mouth-watering smorgasbord of rhythms, dipping into a world of leftfield sampled delights. Tunes on offer here are all sample based, and are sourced from the internet and Kevin''s own recorded samples. There is an unnerving layering of textures and strange sonic sorcery that lends an air of unpredictability to the whole proceedings - which is to say, it never gets dull.
Special guests included John Fraser on acoustic double bass, blues singer Stuart Petrie on the bouncy ''Royal Loop'', and the ethereal, Celtic influenced vocals of Rachel Bailey on ''High Rhodes''.

Contrary to popular belief Kevin actually has two lungs and is in good health.

Reviews for Nu Scientist:

"Nu Scientist rips along like a turbo-charged moon-hopper, bouncing and swaggering all over the place. It''s a refreshing blast of upbeat samples and riffs full of catchy hooks and funky licks. This is a swinging psychedelic affair, layered with a refreshingly eclectic blast of groovy samples from jazzy double bass to vintage sci-fi sound effects, and never rests on the clichéd smoothness of much house or downbeat filler." Rip It Up

"Nu Scientist is a rich listen for those who don''t seek genre-specific sounds. Onelung is a one-man-band, making his pieces by delicately sampling his own and a vast history of recorded music. Very seldom does his music sound like a join-the-dots attempt at slotting things together: overall, it''s a rich, almost cinematic listening experience." Metro

"Onelung marries subtle electronica with real upright bass, Eno-like deep space journeys, the ethereal vocals of Rachel Bailey on the seductive High Rhodes, and looks back to the likes of This Heat and Cluster for aural references. He offers the requisite downbeat tracks but colours them with deft touches from soft guitar, gets funky and into kitschy soundtrack stuff, and has the nerve to name a bass-driven track after Ornette Coleman''s ''Change of the Century''. He''s ambitious, but it''s hard not to like this." NZ Herald

"Kevin Tutt is Onelung, and Nu Scientist his sophomore release. It''s a beautiful album, wistful electronica and sleepy beats that''s as good for bedtime as it is for the first thing in the morning. High Rhodes features the enchanting voice of Rachel Bailey and is so dreamy you''ll find your consciousness slipping into deeper states of fitful rest. Superdude is a funky mid-tempo breakbeat cracker, shimmering harps floating on top of bottam-deep plucked bass lines. Onelung plays around with a variety of influences, and uses them well. Nu Scientist doesn''t stand out for its big tunes, it just finds its way back to my CD player time and rime again." Pulp

"It''s really nice." Kevin''s Mum
