Are they Punk? Are they Goth? Are they Metal? Just what are these intense, amped up ghouls playing at? Does it matter? If you were to ask the band the answer to these questions, the answer would be yes to all.... And no. Their intense music, their theatric appearance, and their whirlwind stage show defies categorization, and is meant for the underdogs and unappreciated freaks of the world, regardless of any limits on genre. Whether punk, metal, goth, or whatever, if you are a freak and love the darker aesthetic, their music is for you.
Musically, The Order of the Fly borrows the intensity and horror-film aesthetic of Walk Among Us era Misfits, blends it with a good dose of old-school, early eighties hardcore punk, some metal, touches of industrial and black metal, and comes up with a sound that is pure, adrenalized, thrashing rock. The lyrics serve a two-layered approach... Upon first look they are horror-themed blasts of anger, but a closer inspection reveals the meaning behind the metaphors, dealing with topics ranging from alienation, suicide, isolation, despair, and an angst-filled frustration with today''s society.
Since their inception Halloween night, 2000, The Order of the Fly has been the very definition of "driven". Rather than sit around and wait for the "record label fairy" to come and discover them, as so many of their peers were content to do, the Order of the Fly formed their own record label, Mad Science Records, and has since self-produced and distributed their major-label quality debut CD "An Exquisite State of Decay", a 7"vinyl E.P. entitled "Dying Season", and is set to release their explosive new mini-album, "World Gone Mad", a highly ambitious concept-E.P. in may 2003.
Their D.I.Y. ethic reaches to all of their endeavors. In addition to producing their music, The Order of the Fly creates all their own original artwork, does all of their graphic design, prints comics and small zines, prints their tee-shirts, films and edits their videos, builds their own sets, and does their own web design on their website which features streaming videos, mp3''s, and much more. To them, the DIY concept is a way of life, and they wouldn''t have it any other way.
All of the members of The Order of the Fly hail from the low rent ghettos of San Bernardino, CA, a place which, as anyone who has had the occasion to visit, is best left forgotten. They are not musicians born with proverbial silver spoons in their mouths, so they have had to work infinitely harder for their achievements than most preppie, rich-kid bands who have the benefit of Daddy''s allowance to supplement their income. The advantage to this, however, is that it has made The Order of the Fly a defiantly hard-working collective, used to adverse conditions and grateful for every success. They take nothing for granted and do not forget those who were there to help them in their infancy. It is due to this attitude that they have amassed a huge following of like-minded kids in their native San Bernardino and Inland Empire areas, a fanatic following which continues to grow exponentially day by day.
