PAMALA STANLEY
Pamala was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and at age 7 moved to Norfolk Virginia where she started singing with her brother James and her sister Sandra. By age ten, she was recording with James and Sandra for Frank Guida on the label that launched Gary US Bonds and Jimmy Soul. He had seen them perform on a Jerry Lewis Telethon and signed them immediately. They recorded 6 songs over the next three years.
At 17, Pamala became a country singer with a local band named The Rudy Wesley show (insert pix) She then moved on to rock, pop and show dance bands. She married her manager Chris Kettner and together with their close friends Annabelle and Dennis Doughty, opened one of the largest nightclubs in the Tidewater area, "The Fifth National Banque." It was an immediate success along with Pamala and Sandra''s band The Fifth National Band, which became the most popular local band in the area drawing thousands of fans and included tours up and down the East Coast. Her marriage ended after 3 years. She decided to leave Norfolk and move to Santa Cruz California to live with her brother James and attend college. Through her brother''s encouragement she went solo and started playing piano bars in the area. Her music professor John Orlando convinced her to move to New York City and try her luck in the Big Apple. There to make ends meet, she played piano bars and did some commercials for Schlitz Beer and Bounce. She met some very talented, David Zippel (City Of Angels, The Goodbye Girl, Disney movies) was then an up and coming Broadway lyricist, and a musician songwriter named Lou Schere along with his lyricist Rhoda Roberts. Pamala started doing demos and backers auditions along with auditioning for Broadway plays.
A German producer, Karl Schmitz walked into the club "Brothers and Sisters" on West 46th Street where Pamala was performing and offered her a recording contract in Germany. She was off to Berlin. Recording in Berlin, she wrote the Album "This Is Hot" with her record producer, Joachim Heider, David Zippel, and songs from Lou Shere and Rhoda Roberts. It was an instant success on EMI and there began Pamala''s Disco, years. The next year was spent touring and promoting her Album throughout Europe.
EMI America signed "This Is Hot" and she was off to LA where she started touring the US performing in all kinds of Disco''s gay and straight. Her best and most loyal fans of the dance era were the gay crowds and Pamala has continued performing for many parades and functions in the gay community across the United States.
She married Frank Mandaro in 1980 and moved to Dallas, Texas where they had a son also named Frank in 1982. By then Pamala had left EMI and began her own label, Kommander Records, with her husband Frank and there partners from Oak Lawn Records Ray Cooper and David Hilzendagger. Pamala and Frank produced and arranged the singles. He mother, sister Sandra, and her younger sister Robin, also a singer in Houston, added the vocal back up. It was a family affair and labor of love.
The first single "I Don''t Want To Talk About It," written by her brother James, shot up the Billboard Disco Charts to # 13. The next single, also written by James, was "Coming Out Of Hiding." It was released on TSR records, owned and operated by Tom Hayden. "Coming Out Of Hiding" was # 4 for the Year in 1984 on the same Billboard Charts. The video received extensive airplay on many video programs worldwide including MTV and top 40 Videos. She followed that release with "If Looks Could Kill," also in the top 20, which found it''s way into the Arnold Schwarzenegger" film "Raw Deal." Her next dance CD found moderate success on Chameleon Records. Songs included a remake of Stevie Nicks "Rhiannon," her old classics and two new songs written by Pamala and James, "Body Time" and "Got The Fever."
Pamala has been touring since the 1980''s. She has been seen singing with some of the most recognized names in music: Bette Midler, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, Natalie Cole, and Frank Sinatra just to name a few. Known internationally, she has done shows in Europe, South America, Mexico, and The Far East. She was a favorite on the hit Canadian show Michele Jasmin''s Talk Show and Pop Express.
You might remember Pamala doing "Dance Fever" or one of several prime time TV specials. She also did various nationally televised parades, including Foley''s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Fort Lauderdale''s "Winterfest" boat parade, which won her best entertainer two years in a row, as well as opening an LA Rams/New Orleans Saints game with the national Anthem.
Pamala was living in Las Vegas singing at the Las Vegas Hilton when she was invited to be the entertainment of a new club and restaurant on Fort Lauderdale Beach called Evangeline. Ron Morrison, the owner, had seen one of Pamala''s performances. The restaurant had a New Orleans theme. Thus, began Pamala''s introduction to Classic Jazz and Blues. Solo at first she slowly added one piece at a time until she had the hottest New Orleans Boogie Band in South Florida. The band recorded a Live CD. (Insert pix)(Go to recordings to hear samples of it) She enjoyed these years and continued until once again she found herself a single woman and late in 1996 Pamala decided to return to being a solo performer. She began performing in The Grill Room at The Riverside Hotel in Fort Lauderdale on the renowned Las Olas Blvd. Taking off from the band gave her more time to write originals and develop her own style of singing the jazz classics. She has completed her first jazz classics CD entitled "All In The Game" with songs from the 20''s, 30''s, 40''s, and "We Are In Love" by Harry Connick Jr. available for sale.
Pamala has also completed a comic strip, musical, CD and book written by James Lee Stanley entitled "Sex and The Single Mom" which will be released sometime in 2005. She is currently working on a New Orleans Blues pop record of originals and covers, and a Broadway CD.
In 2003 with her son in college and single once more, Pamala started working on Cruise ships and has been traveling ever since performing a new cabaret act, which includes Classic Jazz, Pop, Blues, Broadway, and originals. Check out the schedule section for updates.

places like Tavern on the Green, Algonquin, The Carlyle, and The Blue Note: And Let''s not forget "Broadway."
