"Music goes round in circles. It''s just as well because people need to be reminded of what music is all about. This release from Paul Waters is proof that the singer/songwriter genre is still alive and kicking. With Paul Waters, you feel that this Greensboro, NC artist has an ear constantly placed in the 1960''s. On first impression you will end up trying to compare each track to a famous artist but on repeated listening, you will realise that not a lot of people would produce such a sparse but warm https://www.tradebit.comTLE BOY LOST comes over as a lost Bob Dylan or Tom Petty classic, while WALKING AWAY has its fair share of Lennon influences. In fact Waters'' vocals on most of these songs can be described as a pleasant mixture of both Lennon and McCartney. Even bizarrely enough, IT SEEMS THE PARTY''S OVER sounds in parts like a Spinal Tap tune. Maybe it is the sparseness of this track but to say anymore about it would only spoil the https://www.tradebit.com thing you will realise listening to this is that while the tracks are accessible, on repeated listens you end up picking out something different. The lyrics are not of a whining kind either, than say certain tracks by established artists such as Coldplay or David Gray, which means that Waters does not need to find his voice, as he knows what it is. Hopefully he will rope in a few more musicians to flesh out his sound and top this enjoyable album."

"Waters, formerly of the Lindley Park, has returned from London and brought a little bit of the singer/songwriter cabaret/dancehall pop element with him. The result is the solo-sounding Goon Show...though occaisionally he allows one of his old bandmates, bassist David Spurlock, and a guitarist and drummer to appear (the full-band, Elvis Costello-like powerpopper opener "It Only Happened Today"). He writes like a homespun slice of Ray Davies or a mid-period Beatles (sometimes Rubber Soul, but usually Lennon''s third of The White Album), but he sings more like the post-Beatles Lennon ("Where Do You Go")...the fuzzy electric lead of "It Seems The Party''s Over" shows his chops amongst some nice ''60''s harmonies."

"...His songs are jovial journeys inside and outside casting aside the more negative emotions. And it''s this aura that will beckon listeners to come to the front of the crowd at his live gigs to see what''s going on and watch him weave his masterful musical creations. I can''t put my finger on it but this guy really just has that one thing that puts him over the top. You''ll find yourself listening to the album over and over again trying to figure out what that is. Then eventually like me you''ll give up on comparisons and just dig the raw groovy rock-n-roll."
