Leanie Mendelsohn has two Mid-America Emmy awards and three nominations for her music in film and television documentaries. Her first work for “On Site: Three St. Louis Sculptures” received an Emmy and the program is in the video data bank at The Art Institute of Chicago.
The television documentary, “End of the Line: Orphan Trains”, about the movement of orphans from the lower East side of New York during the early 1900’s to the Midwest aired on KSDK TV and KETC TV in St. Louis. It has been used in high schools and universities across the United States.
“Beyond The Labels: The Human Side of Aids” was recognized as best documentary at the national educational conference of the Catholic Health Association of the United States.
“When the Spill Hit Homer,” is a film documentary about the Exxon Valdez oil spill. This program aired through New York Women in Film and Television and on WNET, New York, also achieving recognition at film festivals.
“Worlds of Bright Glass”, a video documentary about mosaics cites, among others, the St. Louis Cathedral Basilica which holds the largest mosaic collection in the world. The program also deals with the development of the United States during the Industrial Revolution through mosaic murals at the Cincinnati, Ohio airport.
In addition to composing music for television documentaries, Leanie’s music has been on programs for schools in the Southeast United States (through Citizenship Education Clearing House), The Leukemia Society of America, and most recently was heard on https://www.tradebit.com, and "The 20 Most Shocking Unsolved Crimes" aired on Cable, Sirius and XM Satellite Television.
“Heartstrings” is a departure from the many years she has spent composing music for film and television. It is more personal, introspective and spiritual. Leanie Mendelsohn is a member of BMI and this is her first CD.
