"While Minnesota guitarist Peter Lang may not be as well-known as Leo Kottke, or even the late John Fahey, he is nonetheless one of a handful of acoustic guitarists who defined new American styles in the 1960s and ''70s by drawing from this country''s own rich musical heritage, and going deep into musical esoterica from around the globe, particularly the Near, Middle, and Far Eastern musical cultures. . . This is guitar music that matters because it is played not only with technical acumen and a sense of history, but with an aesthetic that celebrates and pushes the tradition in new directions." December 2003

Long considered one of America''s premier finger-style guitarists, Lang returned to music after a 20 year hiatus from recording and performing with his critically acclaimed album DHARMA BLUES, in 2001. During his separation from writing and recording, Lang managed an Animation Studio and produced films and commercials. His vocation allowed him to continue to use his talents producing national spots for companies including MTV, COKE, HERSHEY''S, TIME, TARGET. GUITAR utilizes Lang''s multidimensional talents serving as the recording engineer and cover artist. Lang created all the artwork for the album including the design and layout. "I think the biggest obstacles we face are the ones that we place in front of ourselves. I have always bounced my art off other people because of self-doubt. This time I took a risk, followed my instincts, closed my eyes and stepped off the cliff. No one auditioned it until it had gone to press. It was exhilarating," states Lang.

PETER LANG was discovered and recorded in 1972 by the legendary guitarist John Fahey who signed Lang to his own label, Takoma Records. Fahey launched the careers of other notable artists on Takoma, including Leo Kottke, George Winston, Robbie Basho, Bola Sete and others. Peter Lang toured, recorded and performed for nearly ten years, developing a reputation as one of the nations top acoustic players. In the 70''s he was in good company, having recorded or performed with Ry Cooder, John Fahey, Jerry Garcia, Chet Atkins, John Hartford, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Emmylou Harris, Leo Kottke, Freddie King, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, John Hammond, Keith Jarrett, Phoebe Snow, Maria Muldaur, The Yellowjackets, Robben Ford, and many others. In 1989 Lang started a new career, producing animation for film and broadcast and began a self-imposed exodus from performing. In 1999 Lang left his job as an animation/special effects producer to pursue music once again.

Lang''s credits include: * Seven record albums (including one with Leo Kottke and John Fahey). * Grammy Nomination, 1976 (Lycurgus) * Guitar Player Magazine 1974 - Readers Poll, " Best New Guitarist" category * Minnesota Music Awards, "Best Guitarist" 1981, 1982, 1988 * Co-author of the book 20th Century Masters of Finger-Style Guitar,1982, Stropes Editions, Ltd.
