I first became interested in healing while stationed with the Pacific Fleet Band, in Pearl Harbor, Hi. The band had a nine to five schedule, so I had many evenings and weekends off. I was enamored with the vast metaphysical activities in Honolulu. Everything made sense to me. A switch had been turned on inside of me. I had no doubt that I was a healer.
After an injury, my career in the Navy Music Program had to come to an end.
After leaving the Navy I attended Berklee College of Music, in Boston, as a film scoring major. During a winter break I was invited to a Reiki event in a beautiful cabin near Grand Father Mountain, N.C. Reiki blended well with the other healing modalities that I already had in my tool kit. In a few years I became a Reiki Master.
Upon graduating with honors I left to pursue what I thought was my calling, composing music for film and television. I followed the long line of film scoring majors to Los Angeles where I quickly found work as an assistant to an award winning film composer. While going out on one of many coffee runs, I met a woman who was a Reiki Master. When I came back with the coffee, I told my employer about my meeting. He commented that it was the first time he ever saw me smile.
The film we were working on was never released. After that project was over, I was hired as an assistant music editor on the ABC series "Nothing Sacred." The show was critically acclaimed, but it''s content rubbed some people the wrong way. Three weeks after I got the job, the program was petitioned off the air.
Since I had success quickly finding work in LA, I thought I was well on my way to a nice career in the film and TV industry. A few months went by, and I was unable to land any work. I was forced to take a job outside of music for the first time in my life. I wound up selling cars in South Bay LA.
To my surprise I found myself on top of the sales board in a few short months. Little did I know that I was making more money for those above me then I was for myself. I almost always led the store in new car sales, but made less money the guy selling six used cars. I helped the dealership meet their new car goals.
The car business is a strange place. One day you can make over a thousand dollars and then not make a dime for weeks. At the times when I was ready to quit the business, i would get a nice deal and begin to become a bit more motivated.
After a few years, I was offered the job as closer. I was successful at it. Normally the closer/salesperson relation features the closer in the role of bad cop. The switch up caught customers off guard and I had good results in closing deals. However, I was not very happy with myself.
You do not lie in the car business, but you do not tell the truth either. That did not sit well with me. I soon began to show symptoms of depression which were obvious to everyone except me.
I wandered around in a daze for many years, going from delearship to dealership. I became a finance writer and enjoyed that, then the same thing happened, i did not like the fact that I had to hide the full story from customers.
I knew I had something to offer, yet, finding it was like chasing a feather. I found many opportunities to heal others, yet avoided healing myself.
Once I got in the car business I no longer composed. yet I told every person that I met that I was an out of work musician and that was a help in making deals. Sometimes people would complain that they had a headache and just wanted to leave the dealership. I would ask them that if I got rid of their headache would they buy the car. My skills as a healer earned me a few deals.
At what seemed to be my darkest hour, I began to compose again. This was something that I had not done for almost seven years. The music helped to heal me, and I knew that by combining my skills as a composer and Reiki Master was the best way I could serve the Universe.
