J and Ry met in grade one. They both loved KISS. By grade six, KISS sucked-Priest and Maiden ruled and the boys started learning to play instruments. They did their first show in grade nine, covering Zeppelin, The Cult, and AC/DC.
Then they heard Muddy Waters. Oh dear.
Then they heard Hound Dog Taylor. Holy Sh*t!! They ditched all there songs,(except ''Rock&Roll Ain''t Noise Pollution'') and started a nasty little blues band, picking up a Friday night house gig at a downtown club in Winnipeg, at the tender age of 15. The club served as Winnipeg''s main afterhours booze can, and you''d see the boys passing the hat between sets for their pay, dealing with all sorts of debauched, drunken, drugged out freaks. Soon they realized they wanted to do this forever...
After six years in that band, they all split-for three or four years, J toured six months out of the year all over N. America, and Ryan toured for three or four years straight, both as sidemen for different blues bands. In ''98, they reunited with a need to rock out however they felt-freedom! It is obvious The Perpetrators are not one of those misguided outfits. This superlative trio, reminiscent of North Mississippi All-Stars, have obviously spent mucho quality time listening, learning, soaking, practicing, playing and living the blues in all its many varieties and permutations. In other words, they get it. And they deliver it in spades on their stunning, self-titled debut disc. With drumbeats that shuck ''n'' jive like a juke joint on Saturday night, basslines as thick as Mississippi mud and guitars that howl and growl like a junkyard dog, these dozen tracks find the boys equally adept at choogling boogie rockers (12,000 miles), funky hip-swivellers (One More Day), electrified Delta stompers (Crappy Job, Look at You), acoustic folk-blues ballads (Stay Strong), Texas gutbucket sizzlers (Garmonbozia) and hypnotic John Lee Hooker-ish workouts (Six-Pack).
